Not long ago, the tech industry promised a golden era of AI-powered gadgets. Companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon painted a future where voice assistants would seamlessly handle tasks, chatbots would revolutionise communication, and every device would be more intuitive, efficient, and indispensable.

That vision hasn’t materialised. Instead, we’ve been stuck in a cycle of underwhelming updates, half-baked AI integrations, and products that feel like placeholders for something better that never arrives.

Where’s The AI Revolution We Were Promised?

The idea was simple. AI assistants like Siri, Alexa, Gemini, and ChatGPT would become so advanced that they would replace the need for traditional input methods. No more tapping and swiping, just tell your device what you need, and it would handle the rest.

But here’s the problem, the tech isn’t there yet. Chatbots can be amusing and occasionally useful, but they aren’t the game-changing assistants we were promised. They struggle with context, make frequent errors, and still require constant corrections. The dream of a fully functional AI assistant remains just that—a dream.

Gadgets Are Suffering Because Of AI Hype

While chasing the AI fantasy, tech companies have neglected actual product innovation. Some have stalled, waiting for AI to improve before launching anything meaningful. Others keep releasing slightly modified versions of existing devices, slapping on “AI-powered” labels without any real substance.

The result measures to product cycles, forgettable hardware, and a tech landscape that feels stagnant. Instead of truly groundbreaking devices, we get AI gimmicks i.e. features that sound impressive in marketing but fail to deliver real value.

The AI Experiment Is Dragging Everything Down

The problem isn’t AI itself but it’s the obsession with AI as the only path forward. There’s no harm in developing AI features, but they shouldn’t come at the expense of making genuinely great devices.

Tech companies need to snap out of their AI fixation and start building products that are innovative with or without AI. Because right now, the industry feels stuck, and consumers are left wondering if the next big thing will ever arrive.
