Malaysians To Receive 5GB Free Data On First Day Of Aidilfitri

Malaysians will be getting a small but welcome Aidilfitri treat this year—at least 5GB of free mobile data on the first day of the celebration. The initiative, known as the RAHMAH rebate incentive, is being fully covered by major telcos, not the government.

Who’s Involved and How It Works

According to the Communications Ministry, all Malaysians using a prepaid or postpaid plan from participating telcos will automatically receive a minimum of 5GB of extra data. The data will be valid for at least 24 hours, but the exact duration and terms will depend on each provider.

The list of telcos on board includes CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, YTL Communications, Pavo Comms, Tune Talk, redONE, REDtone, and XOX. Users are advised to check with their respective service providers for further details.

Not a Government Handout

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil clarified that the free data is not a government subsidy but an initiative by telcos as part of their corporate social responsibility. He described it as a collaborative effort between the ministry and service providers, aligned with the government’s broader MADANI framework to enhance public welfare.

Beyond just free data, the initiative is intended to strengthen connections between loved ones during Aidilfitri, especially for those celebrating apart. In an era where video calls and festive WhatsApp spams are as much a part of Raya as ketupat and rendang, a bit of extra data certainly won’t go amiss.
