MCMC records statement from administrator of FB group to 'identify temples allegedly built illegally'

MCMC has recorded statements from two individuals who serve as the main administrators of a Facebook (FB) Group used as the primary platform for the dissemination of information and comments believed to incite racial and religious tensions and subsequently cause public unrest.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said the recording session was conducted at 9pm at the MCMC Cyberjaya headquarters on March 27, 2025, following complaints from the public.

“A mobile phone and SIM card were seized for the purpose of case evidence.

“The case is being investigated under section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], and upon conviction, the individual involved may face a fine of up to RM500,000, or a maximum imprisonment of up to two  years, or both,”.

In a related development, MCMC submitted 110 requests to Meta to remove racially charged content in the FB group.

Out of the 110 requests submitted, Facebook found that 106 pieces of content violated Facebook's Community Standards and were removed.

“MCMC advises the public not to misuse network services and online applications to upload any content that could incite hatred against any race or religion.

“Such actions not only violate the law but can also undermine the harmony of the multi-ethnic society in this country,” added the statement.

The Vibes had earlier reported that the administrator of a Facebook group called 'Rumah Ibadat Haram Dibina Dimana Hari Ini?' had been summoned by the MCMC.
