'Wheel Of Time' Season 3 Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Does Moghedien Get The Bracelet?
The Wheel Of Time universe is so vast that I don’t know how, with just 8 episodes, we get so much information shoved down our throats. Since I started watching this show, I’ve been saying it’s one that is specifically meant for readers. There’s just too much lore to be able to fit into a TV show without being highly expansive and having some 25 episodes each season to truly get people into all the details. I think the real problem here is how extensive each concept is in this series. With things like Game of Thrones or even Shadow & Bone, the shows can focus on one aspect of the story, and it’s still enjoyable by both readers and only-show-watchers, but here, it becomes a struggle to appease either one of those two categories. Still, I definitely think it’s much more appropriate for fans of the books who can actually get the complexity of what’s going on without having to look up every little detail every 5 minutes of watching the show. But, with that said, let’s dive straight into episode 6 of Season 3.
Spoiler Alert
What Does Lanfear Ask Liandrin To Do?The Wheel Of Time episode 6 begins with a flashback to 95 years earlier, when Liandrin gave birth to her baby boy. She names her baby Aludran, and when her husband tries to take him away from her and drown him, she screams, killing the two men in the room using the One Power. As she tries to get out of the city, nobody’s willing to help her. Finally, Ishmael rescues her, and we know what happens next. In the present day, Lanfear comes to see Liandrin in her dreams. In this dream, Liandrin is the Amyrlin Seat. She tells Lanfear that she stayed at the Tower as long as she could. Lanfear wonders what she’s doing in Tanchico, though. Lanfear asks Liandrin if she’s working for Rahvin, another one of the Forsaken. Liandrin tells Lanfear that the Black Ajah were only loyal to Ishamael, but he’s dead now. Lanfear thinks she’s trying to turn the Forsaken against each other and warns her about it being a dangerous game.
With Liandrin at Lanfear’s feet, the latter tells her that one of the Black Ajah has been turned by Rahvin, and she wants Liandrin to kill her. Liandrin then tells the other Black Ajah about the Shackled Man. The Shackled Man is a man who can channel and is controlled by two Aes Sedai through two bracelets and a collar. Liandrin has one bracelet, and the other is supposed to be at Tanchico, but they don’t know where it is. Liandrin tells the women that they need to find the bracelet and collar by the next day, or their master will be angry. Moghedien is part of this conversation, too.
On the other hand, Elayne, Nynaeve, Mat, and Min get ready to blend into the world of Tanchico. They split up to find any information that they can get about Liandrin and the Black Ajah. Meanwhile, Egwene asks the Wise Ones how she can find a way to stop Lanfear in Tel’aran’rhiod. The Wise Ones tell her that the Forsaken are too powerful there and in no way will Egwene be able to defeat her there. But she can do it in her own dream, where her powers will be the strongest. At the same time, Moiraine and Lanfear meet in Moiraine’s dreams. Moiraine tells her she’s trying to keep Egwene away from Rand, but she won’t budge if she’s forced. Lanfear asks her what she saw in Rhuidean that made her afraid of Lanfear (her death, of course). Finally, Lanfear tells Moiraine that she’s sending Rand a surprise, but she should let him handle it himself.
Alsera shows Rand her squash plant while Aviendha shows him around the town. Rand picks up Alsera’s spear without realizing what it is and disrespects her. The little girl tells him that he can only repay her “toh” when he’s harvested her garden when it’s ripe. On the other hand, Perrin is in desperate need of healing, but Alanna herself is too sick to be able to handle it. It’s the people of Two Rivers who heal him, while Alanna thinks it’s time to give up. However, Mat’s sisters, who can channel, ask to help her, and with her instructions, they’re able to save her.
At the same time, Mat has told a bunch of people at the bar about the bracelet and a matching collar that they need to find. Of course, he’ll pay them handsomely in return. He then meets Thom Merrilin, who isn’t happy to see the guy, of course. Thome tells Mat he’s not going to be able to help them anymore because it already cost him too much, but Mat offers him some money, a drink, and the story of the Horn to have him join him. Nynaeve and Min spend some time together, and Min tries to loosen Nynaeve up a little bit. Min lies to a man that he’s going to marry one of the Aes Sedai, but she’s actually going to kill him. This is just to get people to come and talk to them so they can get information out of them. Liandrin talks to … Egwene talks to Lanfear in her dream and finds out that Rand knows she’s a Forsaken. Lanfear basically tells Egwene that Rand knows everything to turn her against him, of course. It definitely works. The Wise Ones tell Egwene that if she wills herself to be more powerful than Lanfear in her dreams, then Lanfear can’t hurt her.
How Does Moghedien Get The Bracelet?Rand and Moiraine have a conversation about the Sakarnen. Moiraine tells Rand that if she submits to its power, it’s too much for her to handle. She then asks him how to handle so much of the power. He tells her that it’s not about submitting to the power, and the one thing he’s learned is that the Aes Sedai don’t know everything about the power. Rand tells her that he needs to fight the Power because if he didn’t, he’d be long gone. He then shows her a little bit of what he can do, just like that. Meanwhile, Faile tells Perrin that her mother became a Darkfriend recently and asked her to swear the oath, too. Faile got away, but her mother killed her brother. Perrin then tells her about how he accidentally killed Laila herself while trying to protect her. At the same time, some new Whitecloaks volunteer to help with the “trouble” in Two Rivers.
Thom tells Mat that he should stay away from Liandrin, and just as he’s about to walk away, he notices Elayne and calls her the daughter-heir of Andor. One of the locals seems to recognize her too and holds a knife against her neck. Thom saves her by saying she’s an apprentice of his, and they sing a song to prove that she’s from Tanchico. This works, but at the same time, one of the Black Ajah learns of Nynaeve and Min’s presence in Tanchico, and Moghedien ends up torturing and killing her to tell her all about what she heard.
On the other hand, Liandrin uses a weave to get the information about the Collar out of Nyomi before killing her. On the other hand, Perrin finally kisses Faile after showing her the sketch of Mat with the Horn of Valere. Meanwhile, a man gives Mat the second bracelet, which he apparently found at his dad’s shop. Mat gives him some money and hands the bracelet over to Nynaeve. Thom tells them about the Shackled Man of Tanchico.
Moghedien enchants Nynaeve and Elayne to get information out of them. They follow her every word, but when Moghedien tries to take the bracelet from Nynaeve, the latter resists, almost as if she can sense what’s going on. But, unfortunately, Moghedien takes the bracelet for herself, leaving Elayne and Nynaeve without anything again. At least they don’t know where Rand is. Moghedien tells Elayne that Rahvin wants her dead but that she thinks the two of them are very helpful. Moghedien wipes their memories and leaves, and there’s blood on Nynaeve’s face.
On the other hand, Egwene tries to confront Rand, but he gives her a half-hearted apology. He claims there’s so much that she doesn’t understand, and he wishes she could (man, I’m getting more annoyed by Rand by the day). He tells Egwene that all Egwene cares about ever since they’ve come to the Aiel Waste is the Wise Ones and that she doesn’t care about him at all. Egwene thinks Rand’s already gone mad, and he says if that’s what she wants to believe to feel better, then she should. He tells her that the truth is that she’s never wanted him but just the Dragon Reborn. Egwene asks Rand if he knew that Lanfear’s been torturing her this whole time, but he says he doesn’t know. This is when they’re attacked by Lanfear’s surprise attack.
At the end of episode 6, Rand has to use his power to get rid of the people that have come to attack them. Using the One Power causes too much damage, but most importantly, it kills Alsera, who was in the building behind Rand. Rand can’t stand the thought of her being gone, so he tries to will her back to life with this power. Moiraine finally stops him from losing it completely at that moment. The episode ends with the two Aiel girls and Faile discussing how Perrin will have to lead a war against the Whitecloaks.
