Google has announced the integration of ShopeePay and TNG eWallet (an Alipay+ Partner) with Google Pay in Malaysia, marking its first eWallet integration in Southeast Asia. This rollout enables Android users in Malaysia to seamlessly check out with their preferred eWallets on mobile sites via Google Chrome, beginning with selected online merchants.

This initial phase includes ShopeePay and TNG eWallet (an Alipay+ Partner), with plans to support more partners in the future.

With 88% of Malaysians using eWallets in 2024, Google Pay’s latest integration adds ease and security to mobile transactions. By incorporating widely used eWallets, Google Pay now offers consumers more choice beyond card payments while extending digital accessibility to underbanked communities—building a more inclusive cashless ecosystem.

Farhan S. Qureshi, Country Director, Google Malaysia, said:

“We are excited to bring this new Google Pay feature first to Malaysia, a market with a thriving digital payment landscape and a strong appetite for eWallet adoption. By integrating with trusted local platforms like ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, we are localising Google Pay to match their everyday payment preferences and delivering a frictionless and secure experience when shopping on their favourite mobile sites via Google Chrome. As the first market in the region to offer this integration, Malaysia also has the potential to set a new standard for digital payment innovation across Southeast Asia.”

Bringing More Convenience To Malaysians

The integration of Google Pay with popular local eWallets streamlines Malaysians’ online payment experience for shopping, food delivery, and bill payments.

How It Works:

• Checkout: When shopping at participating online merchants, users can click the Google Pay button at checkout or choose “eWallet” in Chrome to pay directly with ShopeePay or TNG eWallet, without switching apps.

• In-checkout convenience: Users can top up their preferred eWallet directly through Google Pay and will soon be able to view their balance in the same interface.

• One-time verification: A one-time security verification is required for first-time eWallet payments through Google Pay. Afterwards, users can enjoy one-click payments without leaving Chrome.

• Secure transactions: All payments require fingerprint or PIN verification for added protection.

Users can start paying with merchants from Fiuu (e.g. Nando’s, US Pizza) and iPay88 (e.g. Alpro Pharmacy, TK Bakery, Yoyo Bus).
