The Terengganu State Government has announced that it will be enforcing a ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes at all business premises in the state starting 1 August 2025.

Terengganu State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Local Government, Housing and Health, Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah, revealed that the decision was made during the State Exco meeting on Wednesday (23 April).

Terengganu will ban the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes in the state from 1 August 2025

Wan Sukairi was quoted by BERNAMA as saying that the decision was a proactive action by the State Government to curb the sale and use of vape and e-cigarette products that would negatively impact the people’s health, especially the younger generation.

He added that the State Government would uphold existing business licensing policies by not granting business licenses to any premises that sell vapes and e-cigarettes, in line with the bylaws enforced at all local governments in Terengganu.

Furthermore, licensing regulations will be updated to ensure the ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes will be fully enforced.

Wan Sukairi stressed that compounds would be imposed on premises which continue to sell vapes and e-cigarettes after the ban has been enforced.

Not only that, but products would also be seized, and sellers who continue to sell the products can be charged under the Local Government Act.

To further iterate the State Government’s commitment, it has decided not to receive any form of sponsorship from vape product producers or distributors for programmes and events organised by the government, including advertising vape products

For businesses affected by the ban, the State Government will assist them by offering entrepreneurship courses through Yayasan Pembangunan Usahawan (YPU) to enable them to venture into more sustainable employment opportunities.
