Xiaomi Introduces Redmi A5: Powerful Camera And Performance Upgrades Wrapped In A New Design

Xiaomi Corporation (“Xiaomi” or the “Group”; stock code: 1810), a consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company with smartphones and smart hardware connected by an Internet of Things (“IoT”) platform at its core, has unveiled the Redmi A5—seamlessly blending a generous array of upgrades that make advanced smartphone features accessible to a broader audience. With a refreshed design, a significantly improved camera, and a larger display, the Redmi A5 transforms the essentials into an experience that feels effortlessly refined—crafted for those who value both practicality and aesthetics in their everyday smartphone.

The Redmi A5 introduces a sleek new design, elevating its visual appeal with a stylish flat frame and an enhanced camera deco featuring an all-new metallic-feel surround. This smartphone comes in sophisticated colour options, each evoking a distinct sense of character. Midnight Black and Sandy Gold sport a matte, smudge-resistant finish that offers timeless, understated elegance. Ocean Blue, inspired by nature, features veined patterns reminiscent of ripples on a tranquil body of water. With its slim 8.26mm body¹, the Redmi A5 strikes a balance between modern elegance and comfortable grip.

Despite its slim profile, the Redmi A5 expands possibilities with a large 6.88-inch display² supporting up to 120Hz refresh rate, offering a truly immersive experience—whether watching videos, browsing, or reading. Even with damp hands, wet touch technology helps maintain responsiveness, further enhancing usability. For extended viewing, TÜV Rheinland-certified eye protection and DC dimming work to minimise eye strain, making screen time easier on the eyes.

Complementing the display, the Redmi A5 offers a significant leap in photography with its powerful 32MP AI dual camera, allowing users to capture moments with remarkable clarity. A larger sensor takes in 18% more light³ than the previous generation, delivering brighter, more detailed shots in low-light settings. The camera also performs well in backlit conditions, keeping photos crisp and vivid. At the front, the upgraded 8MP selfie camera produces natural-looking portraits, enhanced by a soft-light ring created from the display’s illumination—ideal for low-light selfies.

Building on these camera upgrades, the Redmi A5 is designed to seamlessly support fast-paced lifestyles. Powered by the octa-core UNISOC T7250 processor and backed by up to 8GB of RAM⁴ via memory extension, it handles multitasking smoothly—even during demanding tasks. Despite its strong performance, it doesn’t compromise on battery life. A 5200mAh battery⁵ provides over 20 hours of video playback⁶ and more than 9 hours of gaming⁶ on a single charge, keeping users connected throughout the day.

For added convenience, the Redmi A5 offers secure access via a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock. It also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack for users who prefer wired audio.

The Redmi A5 is available in Malaysia from 18 April in three colours: Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, and Ocean Blue. It comes in two storage variants⁷:
