KUCHING, April 25: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will hold its Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) in the third week of October this year, with all party positions open for contest, subject to nominations from the divisions, said party president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a three-and-a-half-hour PRS Supreme Council meeting at the party headquarters here today, Salang said the main focus of the meeting was to finalise preparations for the upcoming TDC, which is expected to take place in Kuching.
“All posts, including the presidency, are technically open for contest as stipulated in our constitution. However, actual contests will only happen if there are multiple nominations for a post,” he explained.
“If a position receives only one nomination, it will be won uncontested.”
He emphasised that decisions on nominations are the prerogative of the party’s divisions, and not the Supreme Council.
Salang also clarified the reason for the delay in holding the TDC, which was initially expected around this time of the year, three years after the last conference held in April 2022.
“Traditionally, we hold our TDC in October to align with the party’s anniversary. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, we were forced to have our last TDC in April 2022.
“For this year, due to limited resources, we cannot afford to host both the TDC and anniversary celebrations separately in the same year,” he said.
He added that the Supreme Council has decided to apply for a six-month extension from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to hold the TDC in October. – DayakDaily
