SIBU, April 25: Two secondary school students narrowly escaped death when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a school bus, believed to have experienced a brake failure, at the intersection of Jalan Kemuyang and Jalan Oya Lama around 12.30pm today.

According to TVS news report, eyewitnesses reported that the bus, carrying several students, lost control, skidded, and collided with two cars, including a Perodua Kenari, before hitting a 4WD vehicle. It then struck the motorcycle, which was carrying the two students.

One of the victims, a 14-year-old student riding as a passenger, sustained injuries to his left leg, while the rider of the motorcycle was unharmed.

The witnesses also noted that the students on the bus managed to evacuate safely moments after the collision. They later realised that the motorcycle had been dragged by the bus after the impact.

Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed to TVS that a report had been filed regarding the incident.

“This incident is under investigation by the authorities,” he said briefly.

It is understood that this stretch of road is frequently congested, particularly during peak hours in the morning and afternoon, with traffic jams often extending up to two to three kilometres. — DayakDaily
