Google stops making Nest thermostats for Europe, citing complexity
1 day ago
In addition to ending support for its oldest models, Google announced today that it will no longer launch new Nest thermostats in Europe.
Google cites how “heating systems in Europe are unique and have a variety of hardware and software requirements that make it challenging to build for the diverse set of homes.”
As such, the 4th gen Nest Learning Thermostat announced last year and any other future models are not launching in Europe.
Google will continue to sell the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen, 2015) and Nest Thermostat E (2018) in Europe “while current supplies last.” They will continue to receive security updates, and can be controlled via the Nest and Home apps. Later this year, the latter clients will support schedule creation and editing.
Google Nest will continue to build and release other smart home devices for Europe, with the Google TV Streamer cited as the most recent launch. Google says to “expect even more helpful home devices in Europe in the coming months and years.”
