Progress in Batu Kawa, Batu Kitang, Kota Sentosa shows why Stampin must elect GPS MP

KUCHING, April 26: Given the remarkable development achievements in areas like Kota Sentosa, Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives, Stampin deserves to be represented by a GPS Member of Parliament (MP) who can complement and amplify their efforts.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok stressed the urgent need for more GPS representation in urban areas, particularly in parliamentary constituencies, and urged the public to take note of the tangible progress that GPS leaders are bringing to the ground.

“Take Kota Sentosa, for instance. In just two and a half years, Wilfred Yap has achieved 93 per cent completion of street lighting under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) — a major accomplishment, especially when compared to the decades of inaction under the previous Democratic Action Party (DAP) representative,” he said in a statement today.

He congratulated Yap for the “impressive start” to his term and expressed confidence that the assemblyman would continue to deliver with the same dedication in the remainder of his tenure.

Turning to Batu Kitang, Sim highlighted that GPS assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang had managed to secure close to RM500 million in federal and State funding to address the long-standing traffic congestion at Mile 8.

Meanwhile, in Batu Kawa, GPS continues to transform the urban landscape under the leadership of Deputy Premier and SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“These achievements show what is possible when we have strong GPS representation. What we need now is a GPS MP for Stampin to help push the efforts of our three elected assemblymen even further,” he asserted.

Sim pointed out that constituencies such as Petra Jaya and Kota Samarahan — both represented entirely by GPS at State and federal levels — are clear examples of areas experiencing seamless and substantial development.

“This raises an important question: Why should Stampin remain under a Malayan opposition party that lacks both the influence and the resources to deliver real progress, when full GPS representation could secure a better future for all?” he asked.

Sim criticised the current opposition MP for Stampin (Chong Chieng Jen who is also DAP Sarawak chairman), alleging that he had failed to speak up or even raise basic questions on behalf of constituents in Parliament.

“Whether it is due to party limitations or lack of initiative, the outcome is the same — Stampin remains voiceless in Parliament,” he said.

Sim stressed that electing a GPS MP would not only give Stampin a strong federal voice but also one that can work hand-in-hand with State assemblymen to bring greater infrastructure, services, and investments into the constituency.

He cited the example of Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president and Ayer Hitam MP Dato Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong as a model of an effective government backbencher, saying a GPS MP in Stampin could play a similarly constructive role.

“It’s time for a change that delivers real results. It’s time for Stampin to have a GPS voice in Parliament,” he concluded. — DayakDaily
