Muara Tuang rep: Sarawak’s absolute rights over oil and gas under MA63 must not be disputed

KUCHING, April 26: Sarawak’s rights over its natural resources, particularly oil and gas, are absolute and enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and must never be disputed, asserted Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang.

In a TVS news report, Idris emphasised that these rights are fundamental to Sarawak and were pivotal in enabling the signing of MA63, which ultimately led to the formation of Malaysia as it is known today.

“These rights must never be sidelined, for they are absolute — guaranteed under MA63 and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report — both of which were instrumental in the establishment of Malaysia.

“Without these provisions, Sarawak and Sabah would not have agreed to MA63, and Malaysia would not have come into existence,” he said.

The Sarawak Deputy Speaker made these remarks during the Aidilfitri Gathering with Bang Dris at Taman Desa Ilmu in Kota Samarahan on Friday night (April 25).

Idris further highlighted that Sarawak’s top leadership, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has made tremendous strides in steering the State towards a more sustainable era of development.

As such, he stressed that all Sarawakians must give their full and unwavering support to the leadership to ensure that the vision for Sarawak’s prosperity and progress can be fully realised. — DayakDaily
