KUCHING, April 27: The Sarawak government, through SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd (SMD), will launch a cutting edge AI-powered converter prototype in the UK next week, in conjunction with the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s official visit to the CSA Catapult Innovation Centre in Newport, UK.
According to a press statement, the new AI-powered converter prototype developed by SMD Semiconductor is a ground-breaking intelligent power management and control system with potential applications in the energy domain, transportation, industrial, and mission-critical control systems in the fields of aerospace, healthcare and defence.
There will also be a hardware demonstration of SMD’s new AI-powered converter prototype during the Premier’s visit to the CSA Catapult Innovation Centre centre next Tuesday (April 29)
The visit by the Sarawak delegation led by Abang Johari, is part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between Sarawak and the UK in semiconductor development.
Sarawak government, through SMD Semiconductor, will also exchange partnership agreements with UK’s CSA Catapult, Silicon Catalyst, and 5G3i Ltd.
CSA Catapult is UK’s authority on compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation while Silicon Catalyst is a key semiconductor incubator and the 5G3i Ltd is a leading circuit-level artificial intelligence solutions provider in the UK.
During the same event, the Sarawak government will present the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 to the UK semi-conductor industry players via a briefing by SMD Semi-conductor’s chairman, Dato Sri Wanlizozman Haji Wan Omar, who is also Sarawak’s Financial Secretary.
The Premier’s visit to the centre will conclude with a networking luncheon attended by representatives from the English, Scottish, and Northern Irish governments to further strengthen ties between the UK and Sarawak, particularly in the advancement of compound semiconductor.
