MAS 2025: GAC M8 PHEV now open for bookings, from RM333k - 373PS/630Nm, 1000+km range on one tank

Local distributors Warisan Tan Chong Automotif has announced that GAC Motor’s M8 plug-in hybrid MPV is now officially available for booking with prices starting from an estimated RM333,000 following its public debut at the Malaysia Auto Show 2025. It will be available in two trims: Premium and Premium Luxury.

Physically imposing, the GAC M8 PHEV boasts substantial dimensions: 5,212 mm in length, 1,893 mm in width, and 1,823 mm in height, riding on a 3,070 mm wheelbase. Its size endows it with a slightly larger footprint advantage over well-known rivals like Toyota’s Alphard and Vellfire duo, and aligns it closer with larger Chinese competitors such as the Zeekr 009 and Denza D9.

Under the bonnet, the M8 PHEV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, itself capable of delivering 190 PS and 300 Nm of torque. This is paired with an electric motor rated at 182 PS and 300 Nm, drawing energy from a pretty large 25.57 kWh battery. The combined system output is an impressive 373 PS and 630 Nm, sent through a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, allowing the MPV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds.

Efficiency is a key highlight, with the M8 PHEV offering a claimed fuel consumption figure of just 6.05-litres/100 km while also boasts a generous all-electric range of 120 km, with a total combined driving range of up to 1,032 km from its relatively small 56-litre fuel tank. Charging the battery is convenient, with AC charging taking about 3.5 hours and DC fast charging reducing the time to just 30 minutes.

Inside, the M8 PHEV is configured to seat seven passengers in high comfort with the second row featuring two individual captain’s chairs equipped with massage functions, memory settings, ventilation, built-in extendable ottomans, power adjustments, and integrated five-inch armrest displays. A 15.6-inch roof-mounted display adds to the in-car entertainment.

The front seating area is also well-equipped with the driver enjoying a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. Perhaps taking a cue out of the Zeekr playbook, the M8 PHEV’s audio duties is handled by a premium 16-speaker Yamaha sound system.

On the safety front, the GAC M8 PHEV is packed with a Level 2 advanced driver assistance suite. This includes features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, 360-degree cameras, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring with collision avoidance, rear cross traffic alert with automatic braking, and parking assistance.

Customers who place early bookings will benefit from added perks such as a complimentary charging cable and scheduled maintenance. WTC Automotif is also offering a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/150,000 km battery warranty. These offers are valid until the vehicle’s official launch.
