Ahmad Ibrahim reelected as Senator to represent Sarawak

By Shikin Louis

KUCHING, May 22: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today approved a motion to re-elect Dato Ahmad Ibrahim as a Senator representing the State.

This marks his second term as Senator, following his initial appointment on May 18, 2022. His current term runs for three years, from July 22, 2022, to July 21, 2025.

His reappointment—approved early during the ongoing DUN sitting—is in accordance with the legislative schedule.

The motion was tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and seconded by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, before being passed.

In a statement today, Ahmad expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar; Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; all elected representatives; and other leaders for their continued trust.

“This is not just a personal honour. It is a sacred responsibility—to carry the voices of Sarawak, defend the rights of our region under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and ensure Sarawak’s interests are protected at the federal level.

“As we look ahead, I reaffirm my full commitment to all Anak Sarawak. I will continue to serve with integrity, bipartisan collaboration, and deep loyalty to our land and people,” he said.

Ahmad was born on August 14, 1969, at St Joseph Hospital, Kanowit. He received his early education at St Teresa Serian, St Joseph Kuching, SMK St Joseph, and SMK Serian, before furthering his studies at Ashbury College, Ottawa, Canada.

He graduated from San Francisco University, California, United States, in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Finance (BBA).

Ahmad has been a dedicated member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since 1996. He currently serves as the PBB Batu Kawa Branch chairman, a position he has held since 2009, and was elected twice to the PBB Supreme Council during the party’s Triennial Delegates Conventions in 2018 and 2025.

In the Senate, he currently serves as vice president of the Council of Malaysian Senators (Majlis Senator Malaysia).

From 2016 to 2023, Ahmad served as deputy chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), where he played key roles in standing committees and was instrumental in organising major local events such as the MPP Bazaar Ramadan, Padawan Raft Safari, Telaga Air Festival, and the Padawan International 4×4 Challenge.

A strong advocate for youth development, he is a life member of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas), having served as Batu Kawa branch chairman (2012–2016) and currently as Batu Kitang branch deputy chairman (now in his third term, serving until 2026). He has also been elected twice to the SABERKAS Supreme Council and currently serves as its internal auditor.

In the sports arena, Dato Ahmad has served as Assistant Chef-de-Mission for Sarawak’s contingents to four SUKMA Games (2010, 2018, 2022, and 2024). He is also the patron of several sports clubs, including Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) and Kelab Muay Thai Kenyalang (since 2023).

He is a life member of several professional and community-based organisations, including the United States Graduates Association (USGA) Sarawak Chapter, Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA), Persatuan Melanau Miri, and Kooperasi Persatuan Melanau Miri. — DayakDaily
