Chrome Gets Smarter By Silently Replacing Your Bad Passwords

Google is stepping in where your memory and judgment often fail. As announced at Google I/O 2025, Chrome’s Password Manager will soon be able to automatically replace weak or compromised passwords on supported websites.

Rather than nudging you to improve your security hygiene, Chrome will take direct action. If your password is found to be insecure, the browser can now swap it out with a stronger one on your behalf.

Most users either ignore warnings or procrastinate when asked to update passwords manually. Chrome’s new feature is designed to quietly patch those vulnerabilities before they’re exploited.

According to Google’s Vice President of Chrome, the system prioritises ease of use while maintaining user control. You’ll still be able to opt out of automatic changes if preferred.

Although the feature hasn’t launched just yet, developers have been given early notice to prepare for its rollout later this year. Google has not released a full list of supported websites or technical specifics.

For now, the best move is to keep Chrome updated and your saved passwords reviewed. If this automation works as intended, your next strongest password might be the one you didn’t choose yourself.
