KL–S’pore Route Climbs To 2nd Place For Busiest International Airline Route After Dropping To 4th In 2024 | WeirdKaya
Global skies are buzzing again, and Southeast Asia is making its presence felt.

Once the world’s busiest international airline route, the Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore Changi (SIN) corridor has bounced back to second place in May 2025, just behind the reigning leader, Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE).

With a total of 483,848 seats, the KUL-SIN route recorded a 5% increase in capacity compared to the same month last year, reclaiming its position after slipping to fourth in 2024.

Meanwhile, the top spot continues to be held by the ever-busy Hong Kong–Taipei route, which registered 557,806 seats, a 3% year-on-year rise.

Tight battle for top three

Reported by OAG, the Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) route isn’t far behind either, coming in third with 470,024 seats.

The gap between second and third place? Just 13,824 seats, a close fight for the silver medal in this high-flying race.

Jakarta–Singapore skyrockets into the rankings

A big winner this year is the Jakarta (CGK) to Singapore (SIN) route, which wasn’t even in the Top 10 last year.

It now sits in 6th place, thanks to a massive 27% boost in capacity, making it the biggest gainer on the list.

Another new addition to the Top 10 is the Fukuoka (FUK) to Seoul Incheon (ICN) route, which jumped to 9th place after seeing a 12% increase in seat availability.

In contrast, Bangkok’s once-busy connections have fallen off the radar. The Bangkok–Singapore and Bangkok–Hong Kong routes both dropped out of the Top 10 in May 2025.

Not only that, this year’s busiest international routes span five different global regions. These include one within the Middle East, one linking North America to Europe, and one connecting Africa to the Middle East.

From inter-Asian links to transatlantic titans, the data reflects not just a return to normal, but a travel boom in the making, with Southeast Asia right back at the centre of it all.
