Instagram adds real-time Spotify song sharing to Notes

Instagram is introducing a new way to share your music taste through Notes, the temporary status updates that appear above inboxes in DMs. Starting today, users can display the Spotify tracks they’re currently listening to in real time.
Unlike the existing music sharing features, this update continuously reflects the current song, showing both the title and artist. It builds on Instagram’s integration with Spotify, which began last November with the introduction of an “add to Spotify” button.
Today’s announcement (via The Verge) is part of Instagram’s “Anyway” campaign, which has been introducing features that aim to “reduce pressure and supercharge creativity,” according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
Among them is a long-requested feature: profile grid rearrangement. This will allow users to manually reorder the posts on their Instagram profile, letting them curate how their content appears to visitors, regardless of when each post was originally published.
Mosseri first teased the feature back in January, and while it’s not live yet, Instagram now confirms it’s getting closer to launch.
iPad app also in the worksToday’s news comes after a recent report from The Information that revealed that Instagram is finally developing a dedicated iPad app, something users have been requesting for over a decade. Until now, iPad users have had to settle for the scaled-up iPhone version, which offers a frustratingly limited experience.
Instagram leadership had long claimed the iPad user base wasn’t large enough to justify the effort, but that position now appears to be shifting. With Meta eager to expand Instagram’s presence, especially as TikTok faces mounting regulatory scrutiny, the company finally appears ready to deliver on some of its most requested features.
