Xiaomi YU7 Sells Over 200,000 Units 3 Minutes After Launch

Will the Xiaomi YU7 be reliable enough to change the perception of Xiaomi cars?
Xiaomi’s much-anticipated second vehicle, the YU7 electric SUV, made an explosive market debut during its official launch event in Beijing. Within just three minutes of the announcement, Xiaomi reported that it had sold over 200,000 units, underscoring the brand’s rapidly growing footprint in China’s EV market.
The YU7 starts at 253,500 yuan (around USD35,300) for the RWD version with an 830km CLTC-rated range, placing it 10,000 yuan (approximately USD1,400) below the starting price of the Tesla Model Y in China. Customers can place a refundable deposit of 5,000 yuan (USD700), with their order automatically locked in for seven days.
Moreover, those who opt to pay a higher deposit of 20,000 yuan can lock in their orders immediately and gain priority for delivery from a limited stock of near-ready vehicles. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun projected that YU7 demand could triple that of the company’s first model, the SU7 sedan.
This projection aligns with current market trends in China, where SUV sales outpace sedans at a 3:1 ratio. Xiaomi’s debut model, the SU7, launched in March 2024, achieved nearly 90,000 preorders within 24 hours and delivered over 272,000 units between its release and May 2025. Truly an impressive achievement.
The Xiaomi YU7 is available in variants, specifically Standard, Pro and Max, priced between 253,000 and 329,900 yuan (USD35,300 to USD46,000). The Standard trim features a 96.3 kWh LFP battery, a single 235 kW (315hp) rear motor, and delivers an 830km of range. It can also accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.88 seconds.
On top of that, the Pro version adds AWD with dual motors (235kW rear + 130kW front), combining for 489hp and 770km of range. The Max trim, also AWD, upgrades performance with a 681hp dual-motor setup and a larger 101.7kWh NMC battery. It reaches 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds, with a range of 760km.
Built on Xiaomi’s Modena platform, the YU7 is a 5-door, 5-seat SUV measuring 4,999 mm long, with a 3,000mm wheelbase. All versions feature an 800V electrical architecture, support 528 kW ultra-fast charging, and can gain 620 km of range in just 15 minutes. The YU7 directly challenges the Tesla Model Y amid its declining sales in China, competing alongside BYD Sealion 07, Zeekr 7X, Xpeng G7 and Onvo L60.
