Ops Luxury Sees 101 Luxury Vehicles ConfiscatedIn Malaysia
2 days ago
Why do so many Malaysians like to buy luxury cars they can’t afford like this?
YBhg. Dato’ Aedy Fadly bin Ramli, Director General of Road Transport Malaysia, conducted an inspection of luxury vehicles that were seized through Ops Luxury at the Seizure Depot, JPJ W.P. Kuala Lumpur and it went exactly as expected. Once again the FOMO so many Malaysians can’t seem to shake off has reared its ugly head as usual.
Ops Luxury is an effort by JPJ to strengthen enforcement against the ownership and use of luxury vehicles that violate road laws nationwide. This should be common knowledge, but to legally operate a vehicle on Malaysian roads, one must have insurance for said vehicle as well as a fully paid off road tax, but evidently not everyone knows this.
Moreover, the JPJ has identified 101 luxury vehicles from brands such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz as well as popular models like the Porsche Cayenne, BMW 530E, Lotus Elise S, Toyota Alphard and Vellfire for committing offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).
These offences include having an expired Motor Vehicle License (LKM), no valid insurance coverage, an expired driving license or no valid license (CDL), displaying another vehicle’s number, as well as a chassis number mismatch with information in the system and the use of fake Trade Plate.
On top of that, the implementation of Ops Luxury sends a clear signal that JPJ will not compromise with any party that fails to comply with road rules. Owning a luxury vehicle is not an excuse to ignore their responsibility as a legal road user. Obviously, if one cannot afford a vehicle, they should not buy it, but I guess some people need to hear it firsthand.
JPJ also calls on vehicle owners to be more responsible by ensuring that vehicle documents and driving licenses are always updated and valid. Also participating were the Senior Director of Enforcement of JPJ Malaysia, YBrs. Tuan Muhammad Kifli bin Ma Hassan and the Director of JPJ WP Kuala Lumpur, YBrs. Tuan Hamidi bin Adam.
