In a heartfelt Facebook post that has since resonated with many netizens, a dedicated teacher named Abdul Muiez shed light on the often unseen sacrifices educators make beyond the classroom.
School often cannot afford renting busesAccording to Abdul Muiez, this time of year is particularly busy with school zone-level sports and extracurricular competitions. Whether it’s marching bands, sports tournaments, or society representatives, teachers often find themselves going the extra mile — literally.
Abdul Muiez shared that just one football tournament can involve two age categories — U15 and U18 — with 15 to 20 students in each group, making up nearly 40 students in total.
“We had five teachers and five cars. We had to split them up and make multiple trips just to get them there,” he said.
Abdul Muiez shared that for a four-day program involving multiple students, renting two buses could easily cost RM6,000 to RM7,000 which the school cannot afford.
Making sure no student is left behindFor him and many others, it’s not about praise or recognition, but making sure no student is left behind.
“If they don’t participate, how will they get PAJSK marks? How will they earn co-curricular points to apply for scholarships or further studies?” he said.
He also add that talented students especially risk losing future opportunities if no one helps them get to where they need to be.
He ended the post by saying, “We don’t do it for the recognition or the praise. We do it so the kids won’t have regrets.”
