PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed Strategic Adviser to the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC), in conjunction with the agency’s 10th anniversary celebration held last night.
According to local media reports, the announcement was made via SIDEC’s official social media platforms. Her appointment is said to be in her capacity as Executive Chairperson of Polity, a policy think tank focused on public policy development, economic sustainability, and institutional reform.
Also appointed as Strategic Advisers were two figures with extensive backgrounds in global technology—Datuk Lai Yit Loong, a former Vice-President at NVIDIA and Foxconn, and Dr Chiang Shang-Yi, a current director at Foxconn.
A statement cited in the reports said the appointments are aimed at bringing “strategic insight and expertise in shaping policies related to digital transformation and high-technology development in Selangor”.
“These appointments reflect efforts to strengthen Selangor’s position as a regional innovation hub while accelerating the growth of the national semiconductor ecosystem,” the statement added.
SIDEC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Invest Selangor Berhad, was established to drive the state’s digital transformation across three pillars: e-commerce, startup development, and the advancement of smart cities and digitalisation.
The agency’s 10th anniversary was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who delivered a keynote address outlining the state’s digital economic trajectory.
As of the latest check, SIDEC has yet to release a full official statement on its website. However, local news outlets have reported the announcement based on what is understood to be posts shared on the agency’s social media channels. - July 4, 2025
