Samsung says its 'tri-fold' device is coming by the end of 2025

Unpacked came and went without an expected tease of its long-rumored tri-fold device, but it sounds like fans won’t be waiting too much longer to get our hands on it.
The Korea Timesspoke with acting head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience Division Roh Tae-moon following yesterday’s launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. While he avoided directly confirming whether the device would be called the “Galaxy G Fold” — a name that would reference its rumored G-shaped frame when folded — he did confirm Samsung’s intentions of launching a tri-fold smartphone this year.
Yesterday’s press conference ended without a teaser — or any kind of direct reference — to Samsung’s planned tri-fold. That caught plenty of fans off-guard, especially considering the Galaxy S25 launch event ended with a tease of what eventually became the Galaxy S25 Edge. That S25 event also referenced “multi-fold” devices, again setting Samsung up for an eventual reveal of whatever tri-fold device it’s been working on.
Recently, the One UI 8 beta gave us an early look into, presumably, the form factor being developed internally at the company. Rather than folding like a map, as seen on Huawei’s Mate XT, Samsung’s device is rumored to fold inwards to protect its bendable screen. The front of the phone will presumably have a secondary display, similar to the core design language used by the entire Galaxy Z Fold series.
Elsewhere, Roh offered a comment on the decision to switch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to its in-house Exynos 2500 processor, rather than using a Qualcomm chipset, simply stating the company “confirmed [its chip] to have sufficient performance and quality for a consistent global rollout.”
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are now available for pre-order at Samsung’s website. In addition to saving up to $1,000 in trade-in value, you can score a storage upgrade for free on both devices, and $50 in additional credit for using 9to5Google‘s links.
Samsung’s new foldables, alongside the budget-ish Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and the Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic, start shipping on July 25th.
