KUCHING, July 15: The 6th edition of International Energy Week (IEW) 2025, officially launched today, is set to unlock an estimated USD2.5 million in immediate business opportunities, further cementing Sarawak’s position as a key player in the global energy transition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), organising chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Rahmat emphasised that today marks more than the start of another energy conference but signals a bold new chapter in a global shared journey toward a sustainable, secure, and inclusive energy future.

“Over the past six years, IEW has evolved from a regional forum into an Asia-Pacific’s leading platform for energy dialogue, innovation, and partnership.

“This year’s theme, ‘From Sarawak to the World: Journey to Clean Energy Leadership’, reflects our ambitions not just to participate in the global transition, but to help lead it,” he said at the event which was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Over the next three days, IEW 2025 will bring together more than 400 exhibiting companies, 200 booths, and 6,500 attendees from 25 countries, featuring cutting-edge technologies across renewables, hydrogen, smart grids, energy efficiency, carbon capture, and green infrastructure.

“IEW 2025 will serve as a catalyst for opportunity, collaboration, and transformation. Whether you’re here to forge strategic alliances, explore groundbreaking technologies, or gain insights into evolving policy landscapes, this event is designed to accelerate your journey,” he said.

Abdul Rahman underscored Sarawak’s rising status as a clean energy hub, highlighting its 70 per cent renewable energy generation, leadership in Malaysia’s hydrogen economy, and growing global reputation as the “Battery of ASEAN”.

“IEW 2025 places a spotlight on Sarawak’s transformation, showing the world it is not just resource-rich, but vision-rich; built on sound policies, empowered people, and strong partnerships.

“This platform is already attracting strategic investments, fostering local talent, and building Sarawak’s reputation as a destination for sustainable innovation,” he said.

Beyond immediate transactions, the event is expected to foster long-term strategic partnerships, attract fresh investments, and strengthen Malaysia’s regional energy leadership.

Among the event highlights are the high-profile IEW Summit featuring 50 influential voices, the Technical Talks series showcasing real-world innovations, and the Future Leaders Programme designed to nurture next-generation energy talent.

Key partners and sponsors, including ENEOS, Siemens Energy, Technip Energies, Velesto Energy, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and Business Events Sarawak, were acknowledged for their contributions in making IEW 2025 a catalyst for transformative energy dialogue and action.

“What sets IEW apart is our unwavering focus on real-world impact. We’re not just organising sessions – we are engineering solutions. Each panel, networking moment, and technology showcase is designed to spark meaningful dialogue, actionable partnerships, and measurable outcomes,” he said.

Abdul Rahman urged attendees to think beyond transactions and instead, forge partnerships that fuel transformation.

“The energy transition isn’t a challenge any single company or country can tackle alone. It requires collective leadership, shared innovation, and deep collaboration. And that is precisely what IEW 2025 is here to enable. Together, let’s seize this moment, ignite transformation, and lead Asia-Pacific into a cleaner, more secure energy era,” he concluded. — DayakDaily
