Meet Noriman Haikal Mohd. Nazri, 25, a second-gen durian grower whose family business, named after his dad “Che Tat”, rakes in up to RM5 million a year just from durian sales alone.
Exports to China & SingaporeNoriman shared that their durians are so in-demand, they’re now shipping 40 tonnes weekly to China, and five tonnes daily to Singapore.
All of that is grown from over 8,800 durian trees planted across a massive 59-hectare orchard in areas like Pagoh (Muar) and Kampung Sepinang.
Reported by Kosmo!, among the varieties are Malaysian favourites like Musang King, Black Thorn, IOI, Udang Merah, D13, and even Kampung Kahwin.
Prices start from RM15/kgIf you’re wondering how much these durians go for, here’s the breakdown:
Not cheap but clearly worth the price, considering the fruits are getting snapped up both locally and internationally.
Thankful for gov’t supportNoriman also thanked FAMA and the Segamat Agriculture Department for backing his family’s venture with logistics and cold storage support since 2022.
Their stall is located at Taman Yayasan, Segamat, and they recently took part in the Majestic Johor X Durian Festival, where they expected to sell about five tonnes of durians just during the event.
Clearly, when it comes to durians, the business is just as rich as the fruit itself.
