Trump Celebrates Report Claiming Gayle King’s Career Is in Decline
5 days ago
President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform Monday night to celebrate a New York Post report that questioned the future of talk show host Gayle King at her network, citing declining ratings and internal tensions.
According to The Post, King’s show has seen a significant drop in viewership, and her contract with the network is set to expire in May 2026. The outlet reported that George Cheeks, co-CEO of Paramount, has continued to support King through the network’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, despite internal concerns. The report cited unnamed “sources with knowledge of the situation.”
One insider claimed that King and her producer had been able to set the “agenda” for programming due to Cheeks’ influence.
Reacting to the news, Trump posted:
“Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP,” he wrote. “She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!”
King, a longtime anchor and host, has not responded publicly to the claims made in the article or to Trump’s remarks. She has often been recognized for her interviews and journalistic work, particularly during her tenure with CBS.
Trump’s attack on King is the latest in a growing list of media figures targeted by the former president, many of whom have been openly critical of him during their broadcasts. He has previously taken aim at late-night hosts including Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Stephen Colbert.
In fact, Colbert’s show was canceled earlier this summer, just days before Trump’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved Paramount’s acquisition of CBS—an event that drew attention and controversy from critics who saw it as politically motivated.
Trump’s criticisms often revolve around ratings and what he perceives as a lack of loyalty among former allies or media personalities. His latest post suggests he believes King missed an opportunity to support him publicly and is now facing the professional consequences.
Supporters of King have dismissed the report and Trump’s comments as politically charged and part of a broader pattern of attacking high-profile Black journalists and television hosts.
As the 2026 expiration of King’s contract approaches, speculation about her future in broadcasting is likely to intensify. Whether Paramount chooses to renew her deal may depend not just on ratings, but on how the network navigates the political pressure and public perception surrounding her role.
