This Might Be Your Last Chance To Buy A VW Touareg New

The VW Touareg is reportedly being pulled from production.
When it comes to super large SUVs with just a small tinge of luxury and performance, the Volkswagen Touareg is in a league of its own. This model shares some genes with the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, but costs a little bit less money and is a lot less attention grabbing than its siblings. To some owners, this is a feature, not a bug.
Well, if you’ve always wanted to own one, you may want to act fast. According to rumours, Volkswagen is thinking of stopping production of the Touareg as early as 2026, bringing an end to the nameplate that has been around since 2002. While this hasn’t been CONFIRMED yet, the signs are there for sure. The Touareg is one of the most expensive VW models on sale wherever it is sold, including in Malaysia. Here our version comes with the R-Line kit and a 3.0L turbocharged V6 and it costs nearly half a million Ringgit. Next to something like the locally-assembled Porsche Cayenne it doesn’t present as exceptionally good value.
In other markets, such as the USA and China, the Touareg has already been effectively replaced. There, VW sells the Atlas, which is larger than the Touareg but less luxurious being built on the MQB platform. It is available with a variety of more economical engine options including a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo and a 2.5L VR6. A 3.6L VR6 is also avaialble for the Atlas too. It should be noted that the Chinese version is in its second generation and is known as the Teramont Pro. This version is exclusively powered by a 2.0L engine and sits on the MQB Evo platform.
