Malaysian television station Awesome TV is suing 3 local celebrities over defamatory claims that the TV station is allegedly not paying their wages.
Awesome TV clarified that all programs broadcast on its channel are produced entirely by external production companies, and any contractual matters and artist payments are the full responsibility of the production company concerned.
The statement also said that the defamatory statements issued by the three individuals have damaged the image and reputation of Awesome TV.
Amir claims Awesome TV owes him a salary of RM18,000
In an Instagram post in July, Amir urged the TV station to settle his unpaid wages, which he had allegedly been waiting for 3 long years. Amir also said that the TV station initially owed him RM23,000, but a payment of RM5,000 was made last year.
Amir, however, is in dire need of the money, and said that he saw no other choice but to publicly urge the TV station to pay up. In another recent social media post, Amir, once again, called out the TV station to settle its debts.
Amir also revealed that he needed the money immediately for his father, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital for an illness, and to buy essential items.
“I need the money to get diapers, milk, medications, and other items for my father’s treatment.”
“Are you expecting me to ask for my money when I have nothing else, at the 11th hour?”
Member of Parliament, Syerleena Abdul Rashid, also spoke out against the TV station via an Instagram post over the alleged unpaid wages. In response, Awesome TV issued a statement, slamming Syerleena for highlighting the issue without any thorough fact-checking, thus inviting misunderstanding and providing an inaccurate picture of Awesome TV.
“As a member of Parliament, she (Syerleena) should be fair and investigate the facts before making untrue statements.”
“Therefore, Awesome TV has instructed law firm Shafie & Co to file a defamation suit against them to protect the integrity of Awesome TV.”
Awesome TV also stated that they take this matter seriously, as well as any attempt to smear its name through defamatory remarks.
