Google rolls out four-color glow for Gemini overlay on Android
1 day ago
Gemini’s switch from a blue-purple palette to the four Google colors on Android is now largely complete (with one small exception) following an update to the overlay.
The rollout started in late June with the four-color icon coming to the Android and iOS apps. As part of this, the “Hello” greeting on the homepage was updated to be blue, which is Gemini’s primary accent color today. It then came to the website, with this refresh also softening the sparkle icon.
On Android, the new Gemini overlay activated by swiping up from the bottom-left/right corners or long-pressing the power button started rolling out in early July. After widely rolling out to beta users earlier this week, it’s now available for stable users on Google app 16.30. Make sure the application is up-to-date in the Play Store.
There are two stages to the new animation. On initial launch, you get red, yellow, green, and blue. However, that light blue is the dominant color and eventually replaces everything else, with the ring indicator around the microphone also the same shade.
Compared to the old design, the new palette is much more vibrant. There are some adjustments depending on whether your device has the system light or dark theme.
The one place you’ll still find the old icon is in the Recents multitasking menu. This is due to how the Google app is powering the actual experience, with “Google Gemini” from the Play Store just responsible for the homescreen icon, widget, and system Share sheet targets.
