The vehicles, some belonging to business owners, celebrities, influencers and foreigners, were impounded during operations that have been ongoing since June.
JPJ enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said some cars had their road tax expired since 2022.
“Most owners gave the usual excuse — they forgot,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur early Sunday (Aug 10), according to Berita Harian.
Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of seizures in the latest round with 93 vehicles, followed by Selangor (61), Penang (28), Sarawak (16) and Kelantan (15), according toJPJ.
Offences included expired or missing road tax, no insurance coverage, driving without a valid licence, displaying unregistered plates and other technical breaches.
JPJ also issued 619 summonses during the operation.
All seized vehicles were taken to JPJ depots for further investigation under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Owners who renewed their documents immediately were allowed to reclaim their cars, but Kifli stressed that JPJ will not compromise on road safety laws.
The operation is part of JPJ’s push to tighten enforcement, with plans to submit a full report to the transport ministry for potential law amendments.
Earlier phases of Op Luxury saw 101 luxury vehicles seized in its first round and 53 in the second.
