Wednesday 2: Is Tyler’s Mother Alive? Did Wednesday Find Her In Willow Hill?

After Wednesday season 2, part 1’s crazy ending, I know you might be wondering how this young girl, Wednesday, will be able to put up a fight against the powerful Hyde monster. I mean, you all saw how, in the concluding moments of episode 4, Tyler, as the Hyde, just threw Wednesday out of the window, as if she was a ragdoll. In Wednesday‘s universe, the only person who has been able to match Hyde’s strength is Enid. In the previous season, when Tyler attacked Wednesday in the woods, Enid transformed into a werewolf to save her best friend from the monster, but the question here is, will Wednesday let her intervene again, assuming she already knows the outcome of such a clash? In one of her visions, Wednesday had seen Enid’s grave, suggesting she is going to die in the near future. But what she doesn’t know is how. Will it be the new serial killer in town who’s going to harm Enid to take revenge on Wednesday, or will it be the vengeful Hyde, who threatened to kill Enid for poking her nose in his affairs? What I am trying to say is, there are a lot of people out there who want to hurt Wednesday and the people close to her, and the most frightening of them all is Tyler.

And what’s worse is that the two people who could have convinced Tyler to return to Willow Hill are dead. His father, ex-Sheriff Donovan Galpin, was killed by the Avian serial killer, Judi, while Tyler himself killed his master, Marilyn Thornhill, meaning there’s no one left to emotionally or mentally convince him to stop harming people around him. However, the ending of Part 1 revealed a mysterious woman, who I believe could be Tyler’s mother. I won’t say with complete certainty, because this mysterious woman could also be Morticia’s sister, Ophelia, who was sent to the psychiatric facility around the same time, that is, 20 years ago, and has been missing since then. At the end of episode 4, you might have noticed that Wednesday personally escorted this woman out of her confinement, implying that she knew her or was aware of who she was. Now, in my previous article, I had mentioned that this woman could be Ophelia because she fit the timeline, but after rewatching the first season, I’m not so sure about that theory. I am certain that Ophelia is going to make an appearance in the second part, but I don’t think the mysterious woman is her. Instead, she could be Tyler’s mother, who, too, was a patient at Willow Hill and had been presumed dead for more than 20 years. So, with that said, allow me to speculate further.

The first season of Wednesday had already established that Tyler’s mother, Francoise Sylvanne, a Hyde, was a student at Nevermore Academy back in the 1990s and was part of the same batch as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia. It’s likely that during her time at the academy, Francoise came across a young officer, Donovan Galpin, who fell in love with the Outcast and married her, unaware of his wife’s alter ego. A flashback in season 1, episode 8, revealed that Thornhill had Francoise’s personal medical report, according to which Francoise was admitted to Willow Hill sometime after Tyler’s birth. But no one really knows what happened to her next. Donovan and Tyler believed that Francoise died during her treatment, but what if she didn’t? What if the doctors at the psychiatric facility lied to the family?

The first part of the second season exposed the evil experiment conducted by the malevolent Dr. Augustus Stonehearst, the acting director of Willow Hill for a very long time. It’s possible that Francoise became a victim of Dr. Stonehearst, who chose her for the LOIS program and lied to her family about her death, locking her up inside the secret basement where he tried to extract her ability. And maybe this was the reason why ex-Sheriff Donovan had been secretly investigating the mysterious deaths of the Outcasts over the years, as he might have suspected that his wife might still be alive and locked up inside Willow Hill. And obviously, he didn’t want Tyler to meet the same fate as his mother. Maybe Wednesday read Francoise’s name on the list of missing Outcasts Donovan had on his evidence board, and that was how she recognized Francoise when she saw her inside the basement.

Also, for some reason, I don’t think Francoise is her original name. I think there’s more to this mystery than meets the eye. In the seventh episode of season 1, Uncle Fester told Wednesday that he saw a Hyde during his stay at the Zurich Institute for the Criminally Insane in 1983. He told her that her name was Olga Malacova, a concert pianist who transformed into the monstrous version of herself in the middle of a Chopin sonata and ended up killing a dozen people in the audience. Fester further said that he never really talked to her, but only saw her during a group electrotherapy session. What happened to Olga next, no one really knows, but for some reason, I want to believe that Olga is none other than Tyler’s mother. I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that Tyler brought a piano for his first date with Wednesday. I mean, this small detail should mean something, right? Maybe after her treatment, someone brought Olga to Jericho, where she changed her name to Francoise and joined the 90s batch at Nevermore.

But I am not denying the fact that Olga and Francoise could be two different people. Because the second season of Wednesday introduced yet another mysterious character, Isadora Capri, who is a pianist too, and hasn’t revealed her powers yet. But the main question here is, how does it all connect with Tyler?

We all know that Tyler had been pretty close to his mother, and the only reason he hated his father was because he sent her away, which he believed led to her death. But if Francoise is alive, then who could be a better person to calm down the beast growling inside Tyler? However, if she isn’t alive, then I believe it is Isadora Capri who’s going to play an important role in stopping Tyler, likely through her music or through her secret power, if she has any. So these are my scattered thoughts around Tyler’s mother and the unknown woman Wednesday found in Dr. Stonehearst’s bunker, but if you have any other theory in mind, please feel free to share in the comment section below.
