What Really Happened to Vero and Marta? Two Graves’ finale begins with a flashback,of the night when Vero and Marta went missing. They leave Jonas to go to the party in the Los Penones chalet. While Vero has attended several such parties, for Marta it is the first time, and she seems a bit nervous. Vero assures her that things will be just fine, as they are welcomed by Beltran to the party, who provides them drugs to show the attendees a good time. In intoxicated state, Marta finds herself in a helpless state as Carlos Jaen takes advantage of her situation and rapes her. Vero and Jamila rescue Marta, and leave the party together.
A distraught Marta is shaken to her core, and she decides to go to the authorities to report her abuser. However, Vero tries to dissuade her, knowing full well that the police are not going to help them. Marta is overwhelmed with a sense of self-loathing; her anger and frustration find an outlet as she lashes out at Vero by attacking her with a broken glass bottle. In the heat of the moment, Vero shoves her aside, and Marta takes a fall and hits her head. This results in a fatal concussion as she passes away. Jamila flees in fear, and a frightened Vero returns to her place to seek help from her father, Antonio. He is horrified upon learning about the situation; even though Marta’s death is an accident, her father, the notorious Rafael Salazar, will not see it that way and will hunt Vero down if he becomes aware of what happened to Marta. Antonio surmises that it is too dangerous for Vero to stay in the city any longer, and he plans for her safe escape as quickly as possible.
Antonio helps her daughter to cover up her crime by wiping the crime scene clean, asking her to leave her jacket to deliberately misdirect the police investigation. Dumping Marta’s body and belongings into the Mediterranean, Antonio takes Vero to his friend Farhid and arranges for her to stay in Morocco until things settle down. For the past two years, Vero has stayed hidden from the rest of the world including her own family as well, except for Antonio, no one knows about her present predicament. Antonio was saving up money, as he wanted to leave Frigiliana, taking Lupe and Vero along with him; he had planned to settle in Brazil. However, after staying six months in Morocco, Vero took off on her own.Antonio doesn’t know where she is at present. She calls her father once a week on the restaurant landline number, which is the only way for Antonio to know that Vero is alive and well.
Isabel Reunites With VeroIsabel is livid with anger as he lambasts her son for keeping the entire thing a secret and turning her daughter into a fugitive. Isabel slaps Antonio and questions his choices when Antonio lashes out at her for abandoning him at a young age to live a responsibility-free life with hippies. Isabel wasn’t there for Antonio when his daughters were born or when his wife lost her life to cancer. He calls out Isabel for her selfishness and asks her to drop the caring grandma act.
Isabel realizes that Vero can still be targeted by Salazar if he is able to find Jamila and makes her confess about what happened that night. She shares her concerns with Antonio when Salazar calls her to inform her that he has located Jamila and shares her current address in San Jose, Almeria. Isabel sets out to reach Jamila before Salazar does. To buy herself some time, she asks Antonio to report Salazar to Faera about Carlos Jaen’s disappearance. She also knows that she will not be able to escape the repercussions of Beltran’s murder, eventually. Isabel lets Antonio know that whatever Zaera tells him about the investigation is, unfortunately, true, but if it is any consolation, Isabel did it for Vero’s sake.
Salazar’s wife tries to convince him to stop his vengeful pursuit, but he is too far gone on that road. However, Zaera takes him for questioning after Antonio reports him, following Isabel’s command. This provides Isabel enough time to locate Jamila’s place in San Jose, and after meeting her, Isabel drugs her the same way she drugged Beltran. Isabel probably wants to threaten Jamila to maintain secrecy about that night, when she is shocked out of her wits upon seeing Vero arrive at Jamila’s place. As it turns out, Vero and Jamila are in a relationship, and they settled together after Vero found out that, like her, Jamila too is living a life in hiding following Marta’s death. On the other hand, with his lawyer’s assistance, Salazar leaves Zaera’s investigation and heads straight towards San Jose. After an emotional reunion with her granddaughter, Isabel helps them to escape in time, moments before Salazar arrives at Jamila’s place.
What Happened to Isabel and Salazar at the End?Isabel takes Vero and Jamila to her friend’s place to stay the night she laments at Vero for her life choices. Vero reveals that out of a feeling of loneliness, she sought to change the course of her life and was allured by the glitz of the scandalous parties. Like her, Marta too wanted to experience a different life, and followed her footsteps. Isabel is surprised, as she mentions that she was always with Vero through thick and thin. However, like Antonio, Vero too calls out Isabel’s selfish behavior about being the caring grandma just when it was convenient for her. Leaving their past regrets aside, Vero and Isabel reconcile. However, Isabel knows that they can’t escape Salazar’s clutches forever, and sooner or later he will catch up to them. As Salazar calls her, she lies to him about not knowing anything regarding Jamila’s whereabouts.
The next day, Isabel decides to call Antonio to arrange for Jamila and Vero’s extraction. But upon calling him, she realizes that Zaera and his crew are present with him already. The truth about Beltran’s murder has come out in the open after the bloodstain in the rug has been matched to the missing teenager. Isabel realizes that now it is her responsibility to keep the girls safe. She decides to keep Jamila and Vero separated for the time being to ensure Salazar doesn’t reach Vero through her and meets with Salazar to come clean about everything.
Taking Salazar in her jeep, Isabel reveals everything that happened that night, including the fact that she is sheltering Jamila. Isabel agrees to take Salazar to her only if he promises to keep Isabel’s family out of harm. However, as expected, Salazar refuses to abide by Isabel’s request, and it becomes pretty clear to Isabel that he will hunt them down the first chance he gets. Isabel also knows that she is to blame for igniting thefury of vengeance in Salazar—who acknowledges that the only way he can do justice by his late daughter is killing everyone responsible for her death and cover-up. In her own journey of vengeance, Isabel too has turned into a monster like Salazar and put Vero’s life in jeopardy all over again. It is up to her to set things right. In her final act of sacrifice, Isabel drives her jeep over a cliff, and both she and Salazar drown to their death as the series comes to an end. What happens to Antonio, Lupe, Vero, and Jamila remains unknown. For what it’s worth, Isabel found closure by reuniting with Vero and redeemed her former selfish self somewhat.
Two Graves ends with Confucius’ famous two graves quote on the futility of revenge, which acts as the core of the series. Isabel’s pursuit of justice was corrupted with vengeful thoughts and actions, and its pointlessness was highlighted by the truth behind the incident. Vero and Jamila were living peacefully, Antonio would have settled with his family and Lupe would have reunited with her sister, even Salazar could have led a peaceful life with his family while trying to forget about Marta. Isabel’s actions, whether out of her love for Vero or a by-product of her own selfishness, ruined her own life in the end, and that of Salazar’s as well.
