Second autopsy reveals suspicious injuries in death of Syamsul Haris

A SECOND autopsy conducted on Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, has uncovered suspicious injuries, prompting calls for further investigations into his death on July 28.

The autopsy conducted on the 22-year-old cadet from the University Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Reserve Officer Training Unit (Palapes) in Skudai, Johor was held at the National Forensic Medicine Institute (IPFN) in Hospital Kuala Lumpur, began at 9am and concluded at 4pm on Saturday.

Syamsul's family lawyer, Datuk Naran Singh Ara Singh, revealed that discussions were held regarding the CT scan before the autopsy.

"The autopsy was carried out meticulously, with every part of the body being examined, and a CT scan was performed again after the procedure," he said during a press conference at the hospital.

He added, "The autopsy results revealed suspicious injuries that require further investigation."

In light of the findings, Naran called on Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail to take immediate action.

"We also urge the Attorney General to conduct an inquest, and for the Inspector General of Police to prioritize this case. We want to know the cause of the injuries to Syamsul Haris' body and who is responsible for them," he said.

Naran also warned that if the Attorney General refuses to conduct an inquest, his legal team would file a petition in court to compel the process.

"We are satisfied with the results of this second autopsy. The findings underline the importance of conducting an inquest," he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Syamsul Haris' body was exhumed on Friday following a court order that permitted a second autopsy.

The exhumation, which took place at the Kampung Rinching Hulu Islamic Cemetery, began at 8:45am and was completed at 9:22am before the body was transported to HKL for examination. - August 30, 2025
