TV Dramas Like 'You And Everything Else' To Binge Watch
1 day ago
The K-drama You And Everything Else may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but one thing is for sure: it’s definitely about a subject that everyone loves, and that is friendship. Korean dramas have always been excellent at depicting friendships, but especially female friendships. While this show focuses mainly on the vile nature of envy within a pair of best friends, which is very unhealthy, I suppose it redeems itself by the end. However, if you’re specifically looking for something to chase down this show, I’ve got the perfect list for you. Whether you want to cry, laugh, or simply enjoy something sweet between the characters, I’ve got you covered. The main thing I’ve noticed is that the reason these shows thrive is because of the great chemistry the cast shares. The same applies to You And Everything Else as well. But with that said, let’s jump straight into the TV shows I’d 100% recommend watching after this one leaves you heartbroken. Be warned, a lot of these shows fall in the comedy category, but they will leave you teary-eyed at some point or another.
Be MelodramaticThis has got to be one of my favorite K-dramas ever. It’s got a fantastic and underrated cast. It’s definitely a little bit kooky, and don’t come at me if you get stuck singing the Shampoo Song once you’re done watching this show. A lot of people found the pacing of this show a little bit slow, but in comparison to You And Everything Else, it’ll feel practically like a bullet train. There’s always something exciting about watching a trio of friends, and you’ll notice most of these shows will have that in common. I suppose in that sense, You And Everything Else is a bit unique, but still, this show will definitely ease your pain a little bit and give you a good time for sure.
Hello, My TwentiesIf you’ve been watching K-dramas for a while, you’ve likely seen this show, but for newer K-drama fans, I might be inclined to call it a hidden gem, because it’s always the romance shows or the thrillers that take center stage when it comes to what to watch. This one is a coming-of-age story about 4 girls in their 20s (clearly). Some of these cast members have really gone places after starring in this show, while others have faded away. I mean, Han Ye-Ri literally starred in the Oscar-winning Minari. The show is about struggling “young” adults navigating adulthood and urban life. I must admit that some bits will feel dated, but that’s the fun about watching older shows, no?
Thirty-NineFresh off the popularity of Hospital Playlist, charmer Jeon Mi-Do starred in a drama with newly married Seo Ye-Jin in this show about friendship and adulthood. To be honest, I was unable to watch this show because it was just way too slow for me, but a lot of people definitely enjoyed it for how heartfelt it was. This one might be the closest to You And Everything Else when it comes to the vibes, but it’s 3 episodes shorter. It’s about turning 40, I suppose, but it’s also just about love and friendship and the difficulties of that as you get older.
Work Later, Drink NowI will never stop recommending this show about three girls who love to drink and hate to work. It’s the perfect show for millennials and will make you laugh loads, but somehow, despite the title and how fun the whole thing sounds, K-dramas, as usual, have their own way of making things get especially sad out of the blue, and this one hits you hard. It really covers a ton of subjects in a similar way to You And Everything Else, but might even handle them better despite being older.
Hospital PlaylistHospital Playlist may be a medical drama, but first and foremost, it’s a friendship drama. I’m not going to recommend the second and third seasons because they’re just not as good, but this show really represented all the friend-folk in the best way, and I’ll happily go back to it. But it gets one step better by incorporating banging music at the end of each episode, which the cast sang themselves! There’s already something mystifying about how addictive medical dramas are, but this show in particular comes to the top of that list.
Reply 1988The Reply series is a classic in the K-drama universe, and while I absolutely detested Reply 1994, which leans a bit too romantic in my opinion, I think 1988 is my favorite, though I’m obsessed with Eun-Ji (plus I already mentioned her show on this list before). This show balances the turmoil of friendship, love, and family in the most bizarre way while making you laugh and then cry till you don’t have any tears left. What When Life Gives You Tangerines is for romantic shows, Reply 1988 is for friendship shows. It’s raw, it’s addictive, and it’ll leave you in pieces for sure. 1997 is also a bit more on the romantic side. Also, she did the sibling thing before The Summer I Turned Pretty, but you can watch it to find out which brother she ends up with.
Dear My FriendsI haven’t seen this show, but it’s about older people and friendship. I hear it’s really good, and it feels like it’s the right show to cap this list. It stars some incredible veteran actors, including Kim Hye-Ja (Mother) and Youn Yuh-Jung (Minari), and I can only imagine how sweet and heartfelt it must be. There’s definitely a lot going on in this show by the looks of it; we have a wider age group, and there’s actual advice-giving involved, but I can imagine it’ll be well done. I’ve heard it might change your perspective on the elderly and aging in particular, which is definitely a hot topic today.
