A man living at a nursing home in Pulau Pangkor was beaten by another fellow resident with a wooden stick and left injured yesterday (Sept 17).

Unfortunately, the assault proved to be fatal as he didn’t survive the beating and eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The nursing home director told China Press that the victim was named Tan An Man, while the 73-year-old suspect was a fellow resident.

He added Tan had lived at the nursing home for the past seven years and had no family members.

The director revealed Tan suffered from depression and often had the impression that someone was out there to get him, leading him to harbour grudges against the suspect and get into physical fights with him, resulting in multiple police reports being made.

He said staff members told him the suspect had returned after having a meal when Tan suddenly attacked him with a chair.

In response, the suspect took a wooden stick and struck Tan with it, causing him to collapse along the corridor while bleeding away.

Tan’s body remained in the same spot until police arrived at the scene. It was later sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for a post-mortem scheduled for today.

The director also revealed the suspect, who lived at the nursing home for over 10 years, was known to have a bad temper.

He has since been detained for investigation and police are still awaiting for the post-mortem results before proceeding further.
