Netflix's 'Old Dog, New Tricks' Cast And Character Guide

Netflix’s new Spanish comedy, Old Dog, New Tricks, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who have a thing for wry humor and offbeat comedy, this show might be the perfect fit. In this article, we’re going to do a roundup about the cast of the show, while touching a little bit on the parts they’re playing in the show. Let’s get on with it. 

Luis Zahera as Anton

Luis Zahera is a well known name in the Spanish industry. He is known for his powerful performances in movies like Cell 211, The Beasts, and The Candidate. Most recently, he played an important part in the Spanish drama Wrong Side of the Tracks, which ran from 2021 to 2024. In Old Dog, New Tricks, Zahera is playing the main character, Anton, a countryside veterinarian who’s going through financial trouble, which compels him to take a job at a fancy vet clinic, Kawanda, which is run by his niece. 

Lucia Caraballo as Uxia

Anton’s niece, Uxia, is played by actress Lucia Caraballo. She is mostly known for playing Bea Vergas in the TV series Estoy vivo, which ran from 2017 to 2021. Carballo has also appeared in the TV series Los hombres de Paco as well as the short film El amor me queda grande. She has done an excellent job as Uxia, and this performance should be regarded as some of her best work for sure.

Carmen Ruiz as Sabela

Actress Carmen Ruiz is known for playing Alicia in the 2017 movie It’s for Your Own Good, Sandra in the 2013 movie La vida inesperada, and Sara in the 2012 movie The End. In Old Dog, New Tricks, Ruiz plays Sabela, with whom Anton has a situationship going on, which, by the end of the season, turns pretty much into a relationship. Ruiz has done a great job here, complementing Zahera’s comic timing really well.

Antonio Duran Morris as Vicente

Anton’s crooked friend-cum-enemy, Vicente, is played by actor Antonio Duran Morris. He is known for movies like A esmorga, Dhogs, and Cell 2011—which also starred his Old Dog, New Tricks co-star Zahera. Morris was also in the 2018 TV series Farina. His character arc in the new show is an interesting one, where he gets to redeem himself by the end. Morris’ performance is both solid and hilarious here. 

Dario Loureiro as Nuno

Actor Dario Loureiro’s most notable work so far has been playing Tacho in the TV series Rapa, which ran from 2023 to 2024, as well as playing Xoel in the TV series Maridos e mulleres from 2006 to 2008. In Old Dog, New Tricks, he plays a veterinarian, Nuno, who starts dating Uxia and thus gets involved in the lives of both Anton and his niece.

Denis Gomez as Victor

Actor Denis Gomez has a career that includes movies like Code Name Emperor and Mondays in the Sun as well as TV series like Neboa and The Neighbor. In Old Dog, New Tricks, his role is small—one of the pet parents, Victor—but a really effective and impactful one in terms of the narrative. Needless to say, Gomez has done a fantastic job here.

Nuno Gallego as Miguel

Uxia’s ex-boyfriend, Miguel, is played by actor Nuno Gallego. Interestingly, Miguel also becomes an important part of the story on account of him being a lawyer. Other than Old Dog, New Tricks, Gallego’s body of work includes the Netflix series Elite as well as TV series like Gangs of Galicia and the 2025 movie Sigue mi voz.

Sergio Albelaira as Tonin

Actor Sergio Albelaira has worked in the TV series La Fortuna and also the movie A Widow’s Game. That said, Old Dog, New Tricks might just be his best work so far. As Vicente’s grandson, Tonin, who doesn’t have many brain cells, Albelaira is a hoot in this show. Every time he comes on the screen, he makes sure that you burst into laughter. His performance is one of the highlights of the show, for sure.

Adrian Viador as Bernardo

Actor Adrian Viador’s filmography includes the Netflix TV series Unauthorized Living, the short film Menos a Korte, and the movie Journey to Somewhere. In Old Dog, New Tricks, Viador plays Bernardo, an accountant working at Kawanda, managed by Uxia. Bernardo doesn’t have much screentime, but his character is comical enough to make a mark.

Raquel Nogueira as Angela

Raquel Nogueira has worked on the 2024 Netflix series The Asunta Case as well as TV series like #Luimelia. In Old Dog, New Tricks, the actress plays Angela, the smiling receptionist at Kawanda. Like all her co-stars in the show, Nogueira is quite hilarious.

Nacho Pena as Xoel

Xoel is a worker at Kawanda. The character is played by actor Nacho Pena, whose most notable work happens to be this show. Other than Old Dog, New Tricks, Pena appeared in one episode of the TV series The Envoys.

Fernando Fraga as Roi

Actor Fernando Fraga also plays a Kawanda worker, Roi. The actor’s credits include the 2025 movie Bad Influence, the TV series 30 Coins, and the TV series Rapa. While Fraga didn’t have much to do this season, we hope to see more of Roi in the next season, if we get one. 

Additionally, actors Lucia Veiga and Pepo Suevos play Anton’s client-cum-neighbor, Loles, and Fermin. Pepe Ocio plays a psychiatrist to whom Anton and Uxia go for therapy. Aaron Porras appears as the public defender, who defends Anton at his trial.
