'Greater Kalesh' Movie Ending Explained And Summary: Did Twinkle’s Father Have An Extramarital Affair?

Directed by Aditya Chandiok, Greater Kalesh is one of those films that instantly takes you down memory lane—especially if you’ve ever had to leave your hometown to work in a metro city. It evokes that bittersweet nostalgia that every working professional feels—the longing for the comfort of home, the warmth of familiar faces, and the chaos of family life. While the film is filled with moments that many would relate to, I personally felt that the ending could have been more profound, as the subject held the potential to linger on in the viewer’s mind. What I truly appreciated was the film’s take on how we often romanticize our past—how fondly we look back at our childhood, the festivals, the laughter, and the shared family moments. But when we finally return home, we realize that we create an illusion for ourselves, which doesn’t line up with reality. Things that seemed perfect from afar suddenly appear flawed—the same arguments resurface, the same differences persist, and the people we missed so dearly sometimes end up getting on our nerves.

And yet, despite all that, there’s an undeniable privilege in simply having a home to return to—a place that grounds you no matter how much you’ve changed or how far you’ve gone. It is a privilege to be able to argue, to get frustrated, and to feel misunderstood. That’s the emotion Greater Kalesh captures at its core—the realization that families might be messy, that home might not be ideal, but it gives you a sense of belongingness. So let’s find out what happened in the Handa family and if they are able to sort their conflicts at the end.

Spoiler Alert

What was Ankush hiding from his parents?

The moment Twinkle entered her home, she saw that her parents and her younger brother were arguing with each other. By the looks on their faces, Twinkle realized that it was about a serious matter. She tried to ask them about it, but they didn’t tell her a thing. They didn’t want to spoil her mood. But when Twinkle insisted, she got to know what had happened. The house the Handa family lived in was given to Ranjan, Twinkle’s father, by his business partner, Suri. For 20 years they had lived in that house, and then recently they got to know that the home was never in their name. So Suri had decided to put it up for sale, and the Handa family realized that they wouldn’t have a home to live in within the next few days. To make matters worse, Twinkle’s mother had gotten to know that Ankush, Twinkle’s younger brother, was dating a woman who was 35 years old. But that was not the truth. When Twinkle invited Ankush’s partner to the Diwali party at their home, the entire family realized that Ankush was dating a guy named Karan. Ankush knew that his family wouldn’t accept his relationship, and he didn’t want to tell them anything about it. Twinkle too was shocked, and I believe deep down she knew that it would be a tough pill to swallow for the family. But after all the chaos ended, after the family members were done fighting, I believe the parents came to a realization that they needed to be more understanding and supportive of their son. They had never imagined that he could be gay, and like many from their generation, they too carried those deep-rooted stereotypes, seeing homosexuality as something unnatural, shameful, or even an illness. I truly hope they eventually understand that just because someone’s emotions or choices don’t fit into a conventional framework, it doesn’t make them wrong or sinful.

It’s understandable that for people from that era, it can be incredibly hard to grasp that love and attraction can exist between two people of the same gender. But that lack of understanding doesn’t justify making someone suffer for simply being who they are. Everyone deserves acceptance, not judgment for living their truth.

Did Twinkle’s Father Have An Extramarital Affair?

Twinkle’s boyfriend surprised her by coming to meet her and attend her Diwali party. For the longest time, Twinkle was not able to tell Rishi what was happening at her house. She had told Rishi how much she looked forward to being back at home on Diwali, and she just couldn’t tell him that things were nothing like she expected them to be. She had gotten to know that the house she’d spent her life in didn’t belong to her family, and it was difficult for her to make peace with that fact. Moreover, Twinkle had reason to believe that her father was having an affair with another woman who stayed in the same neighborhood. Twinkle felt that Rishi’s family was ideal in every sense and that he wouldn’t understand her issues. She was a bit embarrassed in telling him that her family was messy; they were far from perfect. Rishi felt bad that he wasn’t able to make Twinkle feel that she could share anything with him. He told her that she didn’t need to project a fake image, and that he would never judge her because he loved her.

Twinkle decided to confront her father too, and in her mind she had made him her villain. Twinkle believed that her father was taking a few things from their house and, for some unknown reason, going and giving them to Julie, the woman he was having an affair with. Twinkle told her mother that she knew why she wanted to shift to Bangalore with her all of a sudden. Twinkle’s mother didn’t have any clue what she was talking about, but when she found out, she lost her temper. Sunita rushed to Julie’s house to comfort her husband. The Diwali party was already a disaster, and she no longer cared what people thought of her. But once they all reached Julie’s house, they realized that Ranjan had bought it, and he was decorating the room with all the stuff that Twinkle felt he was stealing from their house. Ranjan wasn’t having an affair, and he laughed at his daughter for the assumption she’s made.  Ranjan told his family that he had committed a mistake by not making sure that the house was in his name and it was because of him that they had lost their house. He said that this house was not so big, but as long as he had his family beside him, he didn’t care about the space. The Diwali holidays might not have gone how Twinkle would have imagined them, but at the end she realized that she had her loved ones around her, and that was all that mattered.
