Sarawak's Kota Sentosa Occupational Health Clinic clinches National OSH Award

KUCHING (Oct 21): The Kota Sentosa Occupational Health Clinic (KKP Kota Sentosa) has made Sarawak proud by winning the National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Award 2024 under the Innovation and Technology – Public Sector category.

It was the only government agency from Sarawak to receive the prestigious national recognition, which honours excellence and innovation in occupational safety and health management.

The clinic’s award-winning project, ‘Optimising Occupational Health Clinic Services through the Lean-Kaizen Approach,’ was led by Dr Yasoktaran Ananthan and Suzana Minsion.

The award was presented by Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad at the Movenpick Hotel and Convention Centre KLIA in Sepang, Selangor recently.

The event was jointly organised by the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH), the Ministry of Human Resources, and the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

In a press release, KKP Kota Sentosa said both Dr Yasoktaran and Suzana expressed their gratitude to Sarawak State Health Department and Health Ministry for their support in fostering innovation within the public health system.

“This award belongs to all staff of the Kota Sentosa Occupational Health Clinic. Their dedication and innovative spirit have been instrumental in improving the quality of occupational health services nationwide,” they said.

KKP Kota Sentosa also said the Lean-Kaizen approach, which focuses on continuous improvement through eliminating waste and standardising processes, has transformed the clinic’s operations.

Among the key improvements introduced were workflow analysis to remove non–value-added activities, automation of client health data collection and reporting, and the use of digital visual management tools for real-time work monitoring.

The clinic also implemented Standard Work and 5S practices to enhance productivity and workplace efficiency.

Since adopting the Lean-Kaizen approach, the clinic has reported significant cost savings, improved staff productivity, and greater client satisfaction.

It also reduced administrative time, documentation errors, and enhanced safety in daily operations.
