Dark Matter season 2 is coming: Here’s everything we know
1 day ago
Dark Matter debuted last year as yet another strong sci-fi hit for Apple TV, and a second season is officially on the way. Here’s everything we know right now about Dark Matter season 2.
Dark Matter season 1 was based entirely on the New York Times bestselling novel written by showrunner and author Blake Crouch.
The first season covered the full story of that novel, which has no sequels. As a result, Apple’s season 2 pickup of Dark Matter came as a surprise.
But as Crouch put it, there is “so much more story to tell” with these characters.
Normally, a series continuing beyond the source material might be concerning. But with the original author in the driver’s seat, Dark Matter season 2 has me excited rather than cautious.
Dark Matter’s original cast and creative team are backStars from the first season of Dark Matter will be back for season 2, as the story continues to follow the Dessen family and related characters across the multiverse.
Most prominently, Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly are returning as Jason Dessen and Daniela Vargas Dessen, respectively.
Chris Diamantopoulos joins the cast as a new addition, with his role being kept under wraps. Amanda Brugel will be back, this time as a series regular alongside Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, and Oakes Fegley.
Blake Crouch once again takes on showrunner duties in season 2, in addition to being writer, executive producer, and creator.
When to expect season 2 on Apple TVProduction on Dark Matter season 2 wrapped up in July, per an update shared by showrunner Blake Crouch.
Crouch also said the series would immediately enter about six months of post-production work.
All of that means Dark Matter season 2 should be ready to premiere around early 2026.
Apple TV has only recently started announcing its 2026 lineup. January is starting to look a bit packed, so Dark Matter debuting in February or March would be a safer bet.
Apple could always opt to hold the new season until a little bit later. Dark Matter’s first season premiered in May 2024, for example, so we might see season 2 hit around May 2026. Any later than that, however, would be a surprise.
You can watch Dark Matter’s full first season here on Apple TV.
Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
