Taiwanese influencer and internet celebrity Iris Hsieh was found dead in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur recently while working in Malaysia.
According to China Press, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee bin Hj. Adam, Dang Wangi District Police Chief, stated that immigration records show Iris entered Malaysia at 1:30 PM on 20 October.
PDRM received a report about her death on October 22. Namewee, who was present in the room, was arrested after police found drugs in his possession.
Iris was discovered dead in the bathtub of her hotel room. According to Sazalee, Namewee claimed that Iris was taking a shower, but after not hearing anything for some time, he checked on her and found her unresponsive.
In a separate report by Sin Chew, Sazalee stated that Namewee and Iris had been discussing work throughout the night before she went to take a shower.
Preliminary police investigations found no external injuries on Iris’s body, nor were any suspicious items discovered. Her body was sent to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for an autopsy. The case is currently being investigated as a sudden death.
Sazalee also confirmed that Namewee was charged in court on October 24 under Sections 39A(1) (possession of drugs) and 15(1)(a) (drug abuse) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Namewee pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court has set the hearing for 8 December.
“Believe it or not, I did not take drugs.”
In a statement released today (2 November), Namewee broke his silence, insisting that despite media reports, he neither consumed nor possessed any drugs.
Namewee also claimed that he called 999 upon finding Iris unconscious, but said the medical team took about an hour to arrive.
Earlier, Iris’s friend and manager, Chris, claimed that the hospital cited a heart attack as the cause of death. However, her family expressed doubts, stating that Iris had always been in good health.
