"Polis Bantuan" - Man Poses as Policeman Using PDRM T-Shirt, Tries to Extort RM300 from Rider in Perak

A Malaysian man put up a Traffic Police Department (JSPT) t-shirt to pose as a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer and tried to extort RM300 from a rider on the basis that the rider had illegally modified his bike.
The rider, however, felt suspicious, and before he handed any money, he contacted his friend, who later came and filmed the confrontation.
“Auxiliary police is not police?”
In a video that circulated on social media, the friend, Chong, asked the fake cop, who was with another man, about his working station and asked if he was a police officer.
Chong was confused and confronted the man again for identifying himself as both a police officer and an auxiliary police.
Chong also found other clothing items on them, including boots that resemble a police officer. According to the viral post, the incident took place in Bercham, a suburb in Ipoh, Perak.
The fake cops were arrested by real cops
In an official statement last night (2 November) by Ipoh Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin, said both fake cops have been arrested. The matter took place outside a restaurant in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru on 1 November around 1 AM.

The matter is now being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for pretending to be a civil servant, and the suspects are now in a 4-day remand.
In his statement, Abang Zainal also urged Malaysians to be alert and ask the police officers to produce their valid documents, if in doubt.
