Two dead, one seriously hurt after car collides with oncoming motorcycles

SARIKEI (Nov 3): Two motorcyclists died while a female pillion rider was seriously injured following a collision with a car along Jalan Rantau Panjang here today.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis in a statement identified the two male deceased as Nyaring Achang, 43, and Louis Lasey, 58.
He said initial investigations found that the car driver, a 40-year-old man, was travelling from Jakar towards Sare when the vehicle went out of control.
“The car veered into the opposite lane and collided with two motorcycles heading in the opposite direction.
“Both motorcyclists sustained severe head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sarikei Hospital,” he said.
He said the injured pillion rider suffered serious leg and head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
“The car driver did not sustain any physical injuries in the accident,” he added.
Aswandy said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
He called on anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Ahmad Mustaqim on 084-652222 (ext. 279) to assist in the probe.
“All road users are reminded to always adhere to traffic laws and drive safely to prevent accidents,” he said.
