KUCHING (Nov 3): A man was sentenced the Magistrates’ Court here today to 36 months in jail for attempting to slash a policewoman’s arm at the Kuching Waterfront.
Boye Ramly, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 511 of the same Code, with Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan ordering him to serve his imprisonment with immediate effect.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred at around 9.20am on Nov 2, 2025 at one of the exhibition stalls at Kuching Waterfront.
The victim and her colleague were patrolling the area when they came across a People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) member advising the accused not to enter a booth that was not yet open to the public.
Boye then became aggressive and suddenly drew a meat cleaver, prompting the victim’s colleague to pull her back to avoid the attack.
However, the accused managed to swing the weapon, causing a small tear on the left sleeve of the victim’s uniform but did not result in injury.
Following Boye’s arrest, police seized a 27.5cm meat cleaver and a 24cm vegetable knife from him.
Meanwhile, in a separate proceeding before Sessions Court judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar, Boye was sentenced to five years in prison and two strokes of the cane for carrying offensive weapons in a public place.
He was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides for imprisonment of between five and 10 years and whipping, upon conviction.
The offence was committed on the same day, time and place.
Deputy public prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid and prosecuting officer Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the cases separately, while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel.
