Fitbit Labs testing ‘Unusual Trend Detection’ and Hypertension Study

As the personal health coach preview gets underway, Fitbit Labs is testing more features: Unusual Trend Detection and Hypertension Study Lab.

As we previously spotted, the Fitbit Hypertension Lab wants to “use Pixel Watch data to identify early signs of” high blood pressure. This lab is just for the Pixel Watch 3, with this year’s wearable excluded. 

Fitbit is looking for “up to 10,000 eligible participants to wear their Google Pixel Watch 3 as they normally would for 180 days” in the US. Some of those Lab participants will be sent an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring cuff to wear for 24 hours, with a $25 gift card as compensation upon return.

Google notes how there might be a “slight, temporary change in your watch’s battery life, but it should still last for a full day on a single charge.”

The end goal of this is presumably hypertension notifications for the Pixel Watch.
