Aside from the loss of face, she also lost a great deal of money after spending it all to prepare for what she thought would be the happiest day of her life.
Had a relationship despite family oppositionSpeaking to NST, Nor Syafiqah Mohd Sharif, who’s a single mother, said she first met her future husband eight months ago when he worked at her eatery.
Love soon blossomed between them and they proceeded to have a romantic relationship, with Syafiqah adding that it was relatively smooth despite opposition from her partner’s father.
The couple later decided to tie the knot and Syafiqah said her future husband even brought her to pick out her wedding dress.
“He even accompanied me to try on my bridal dress at the boutique, even though his father did not agree. Even a day before the akad nikah (solemnisation), he came to my house and said he wanted to proceed,” she recounted.
No-show by groomOn the day of solemnisation ceremony, Syafiqah sent her partner a WhatsApp message, which was left on read.
At the ceremony, an imam, over 1,000 guests, and an anticipative Syafiqah were already present. Sadly, that all came crashing down when the groom failed to turn up.
“Imagine this, the tents were set up, the pelamin (wedding stage) decorated, catering prepared, door gifts arranged, and I was already dressed as a bride.
Too embarrassed to face her guests, Syafiqah locked herself up in the room for the rest of the day and the akad nikah ceremony was eventually cancelled.
‘Fate had other plans’Following the failed solemnisation ceremony, Syafiqah said she also cancelled the wedding reception scheduled for Dec 13.
She added that she also lost close to RM12,000 after spending it on wedding invitations, the pelamin, bridal outfits, and other preparations.
“I was supposed to become a wife again, but fate had other plans when the groom did not turn up,” she lamented.A police report has since been lodged at the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters and Syafiqah has engaged a lawyer to decide on her next course of action.
