A durian vendor in Petaling Jaya’s SS2 commercial area started a buying frenzy after offering customers an all-you-can-pack deal: fill a large plastic bag with premium Musang King durians for just RM133.
The promotion came as durian prices fell sharply during the peak harvest season, with several stalls in the popular SS2 commercial area rolling out discounts to attract customers.
Vendors also launched various deals, including four Musang King durians for RM99, buy-four-get-one-free offers, and a bag of Musang King for RM133.
Another promotion offered a bag of mixed durian varieties—excluding Musang King and Black Thorn—for RM100.
RM133 for 15kg: An 87% Discount on Premium DuriansFor RM133, shoppers received a large plastic bag and could pack it themselves from a designated crate of Musang King durians.
Each bag reportedly holds up to 15 kilograms of the premium fruit.
The deal represents a dramatic discount.
Musang King once commanded prices between RM50 and RM70 per kilogram—meaning 15 kilograms would have cost between RM750 and RM1,050.
At RM133 per full bag, customers are paying roughly RM8.87 per kilogram, about 12-15% of the fruit’s former price.
The steep markdowns drew enthusiastic crowds of durian lovers eager to enjoy the king of fruits at unprecedented bargain prices.
Price Crash Extends From Peninsular Malaysia to SabahThe prices in Malaysia are falling primarily due to oversupply, which has also affected premium varieties such as Musang King.
During the peak durian season, prices typically decrease as supply surges and demand declines, resulting in lower prices for consumers.
The trend extends beyond SS2.
Vendors in Bentong, Pahang, are advertising Baby Musang King at RM15 per kilogram, IOI durians at RM22 per kilogram, and Durian Kahwin at RM14 per kilogram on social media—all reflecting the seasonal price crash.
Meanwhile, Sabah vendors are selling Musang King at RM15 per kilogram.
The widespread discounts suggest an abundant harvest, with sellers competing to attract customers during the supply glut.
