Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Cast And Character Guide
12 hours ago
While Amazon Prime has created an expansive small-screen universe of its own with Michael Connelly’s “Bosch” novel series, the saga of his younger half-brother, Mickey Haller, has taken Netflix’s legal drama scene by storm with the immensely popular “The Lincoln Lawyer.” Aside from the likeable, eccentric defense attorney in the lead, the key factor behind the popularity of the series is definitely the series’ ensemble of unique characters whose growth is charted pretty well in the course of three seasons. In the recently released fourth season of “The Lincoln Lawyer,” Mickey faces the worst crisis of his personal and professional life as he is incriminated for Sam Scales’ murder, and the narrative derives strength from the brilliant dynamics among the characters as Mickey’s close ones help him to keep things from falling apart. A spoiler warning is hereby provided, as quite obviously, any discussion about characters is bound to contain key plot details.
Michael ‘Mickey’ Haller Played By Manuel Garcia-RulfoMexican actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo found global recognition with Antoine Fuqua’s “The Magnificent Seven,” a remake of the John Sturges’ classic western of the same name. Following this, Garcia-Rulfo acted in movies like “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” “Murder on the Orient Express,” “6 Underground,” “Greyhound,” and “Jurassic World Rebirth,” to name a few. In “The Lincoln Lawyer,” Manuel plays the lead role of Michael Haller, the sharp, crafty LA-based criminal defense attorney with an upright moral code. Surely not a lot of viewers knew that Matthew McConaughey previously portrayed the role of Micky Haller in the movie adaptation of “The Lincoln Lawyer.” The key difference between both portrayals is that Manuel’s version of Mickey reflects the grounded, brass nature associated with the character. In the latest season, Haller goes through quite a journey, as his career, life, and family are put on the line after he gets framed for Sam Scales’ murder.
One of the defining features of Mickey Haller is his uncompromising attitude and a personal code of honor, which prompts him to push for full exoneration during his trial despite having the chance to capitalize on technicalities. Micky’s risk-taking tendencies and unconventional, and at times, illegal ways to get things done often land him in trouble. That being said, his heart is in the right place, as his zeal to serve justice acts as his core motivation. Like his elder half-brother, Harry Bosch, a daring Micky often finds himself locking horns with corrupt law enforcement agencies, as seen in the fourth season, where he squares off with the FBI to prove his innocence. Mickey’s empathy towards the needy, hapless ones makes him a character to root for and makes him likeable despite all his minor follies.
Maggie McPherson, played by Neve CampbellCanadian actor Neve Campbell, the definitive scream queen of the 90s, has gained recognition thanks to her performance as Sidney Prescott in all the entries of the “Scream” franchise (except “Scream VI”). Campbell found critical acclaim with movies like “Panic,” “The Company,” “When Will I Be Loved,” “Castle in the Ground,” etc. In the series, she plays the role of Deputy DA Maggie McPherson, a confident, extremely skilled public prosecutor and first ex-wife of Mickey Haller. Contrary to Mickey, Maggie has a play-by-the-book approach and relies on her reasoning, oratorical, and deductive abilities to turn the verdict in her favor. In the fourth season, however, Maggie assumes a different role as defense attorney of her ex-husband Mickey. Time and again, Maggie is shown to be Mickey’s rock, and the latest chapter doubles down on that aspect by showing Maggie’s unwavering support to help Mickey keep his head straight when he is at his lowest.
Lorna Crane, Played by Becki NewtonActor Becki Newton rose to prominence playing the role of Amanda Tanen in teen comedy “Ugly Betty,” and since then she has starred in small-screen ventures like “Love Bites,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Weird Loners,” “Tell Me a Story,” etc. In “The Lincoln Lawyer,” she plays the role of defense attorney Lorna Crane, a fellow lawyer at the Haller and Associates law firm, and she is the second ex-wife of Mickey Haller. Lorna’s energetic, bubbly personality conceals her capability of shouldering responsibilities, as shown in the fourth season of the series, where she takes all the burden of the law firm and Mickey’s trial on her shoulders. Starting as Mickey’s associate/legal aide, Lorna is now a capable, skilled lawyer who has held her own in the court and navigated through tough cases. At times Lorna feels like such an oddball character with all her eccentricities and antics (on a positive note) that viewers admit the show owes a lot of its success to her presence.
Izzy Letts, played by Jazz ReycoleActor Jazz Reycole made her acting debut at a young age with “Babe” (voice), and since then she has extensively worked in small-screen ventures. Some of her notable roles include “My Wife and Kids,” “First Day,” “The Soul Man,” “Vanity,” and “The Quad,” to name a few. In “The Lincoln Lawyer,” she plays the role of Izzy Letts, a former addict who turns her life around after Mickey offers her a second chance. A stark contrast to Lorna, Izzy is quiet, observant, and brings a certain stability to the team of misfits. There is a strong mentor-protégé bond between Izzy and Mickey, which the series deftly explores. Izzy is a valuable addition to the team, and it will be interesting to see when she gets to handle cases on her own after finishing her law course.
Dana ‘Death Row’ Berg, played by Constance ZimmerFollowing a successful stage career, actor Constance Zimmer has acted in series like “Good Morning, Mirami,” “Joan of Arcadia,” “Boston Legal,” “Unreal,” “Transformers: Robots in Disguise,” etc. In the fourth season of “The Lincoln Lawyer,” she plays the role of public prosecutor Dana Berg, Mickey’s rival who is hell-bent on sending him behind bars on a false case. Iron will, a cold and calculative demeanor, and hater energy define Dana, who juggled three skilled oppositions on her own in a case that didn’t have any solid ground to begin with. Constance Zimmer exudes a very chilling, intimidating aura in her portrayal of Dana, which viewers are going to love, and they will surely like to see her return in the upcoming season to lock horns with Mickey and co.
Dennis ‘Cisco’ Wojciechowski Played By Angus SampsonAustralian actor/filmmaker Angus Sampson has previously acted in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “The Mule,” and “The Insidious” movie series. In “The Lincoln Lawyer,” he plays the role of Detective Dennis ‘Cisco’ Wojciechowski, a brilliant investigator working in Mickey’s law firm, and he is the present husband of Lorna Crane. A dependable friend and confidante of Mickey, Cisco helps him with on-field investigations of the kind that Mickey can’t always handle. Cisco’s quiet, serious biker bro vibe complements pretty well with his wife Lorna’s lively personality, and their relationship goes through its fair share of ups and downs in this season.
Miscellaneous CharactersAside from the leads, “The Lincoln Lawyer” boasts of a host of skilled supporting characters. Veteran actor Elliott Gould plays the role of David ‘Legal’ Siegel, Mickey’s mentor and a retired lawyer. Christopher Thornton plays the role of Sam Scales, a conman and former client of Mickey whose murder sets off the events of season four in motion. Scott Lawrence plays the role of the brilliant Judge Stone, and Emmanuelle Chriqui plays the role of Jeanine Ferrigno.
