CelcomDigi appoints Albern Murty as CEO following resignation of Datuk Idham Nawawi

CelcomDigi has officially appointed Albern Murty as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), formalising the leadership transition that began after Datuk Idham Nawawi stepped down last year.

Chair of the Board of Directors YM Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin bin Raja Abdul Aziz said, “The Board of CelcomDigi is pleased to confirm the appointment of Albern as CEO. This appointment comes following the conclusion of an extensive search process for the next CEO of CelcomDigi, considering both internal and external candidates to ensure the strongest possible leadership to guide the company into its next chapter.”

He added, “The Board looks forward to working closely with him and the rest of the management team to execute CelcomDigi’s strategic ambitions, drive future growth as Malaysia’s trusted connectivity partner, strengthen corporate governance, and continue building an organisation that is among the best places to work in Malaysia.”

Albern Murty takes over from Datuk Idham Nawawi

The appointment follows the resignation of former CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi, which was announced on 20 August 2025.

Idham stepped down effective 31 August 2025 due to personal reasons, after leading the company through its post-merger integration phase. He had joined Celcom Axiata on 1 September 2018 and subsequently led the Celcom–Digi merger, which was completed on 30 November 2022.

Following his departure, Albern Murty was appointed Acting CEO effective 1 September 2025, while continuing in his role as Deputy CEO. Datuk Idham remained as Advisor to the Board until 30 November 2025 to support the leadership transition.

Albern previously served as CEO of Digi.Com Berhad in 2015 after 13 years in various senior executive roles in Digi. Previously, he was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2014 after serving as Chief Marketing Officer for several years.

Before joining Digi, Albern held various business and commercial management roles at Lucent Technologies across the Asian region.

CelcomDigi said Albern brings over 22 years of leadership experience in the telecommunications industry, including seven years as CEO of Digi. He has also previously served as Executive Vice President and Head of Emerging Asia for Telenor Asia.
