Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 7 Recap: Do Yuji And Megumi Find Higuruma?

With the preparatory stage nearly complete, the young sorcerers of Jujutsu High begin taking part in the Culling Games in the seventh episode of the ongoing season of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” as their primary strategy concerns changing the rules of the battle royale.  Previously, Megumi and Panda engaged Kirara in a fight and managed to convince her to hear their proposal, while Yuji convinced Hakari to assist in the upcoming battle by showing his grit and resilience.  In the meantime, Kashimo, a reincarnated ancient sorcerer who wants to challenge Sukuna, is revealed to have emerged as the top scorer of the Culling Games, which have been going on for the last twelve days already, and using his gathered points, Kashimo adds a new rule to make player data accessible to every participant. In the latest episode, Yuji and Megumi focus on trying to bring heavyweight sorcerers into the team while participating in the Culling Games in order to tweak the established rules in their favor.

Spoilers Ahead

Kenjaku’s Conversation With Sasaki

The episode begins with Kenjaku visiting Yuji’s old Occult Research Club friend, Setsuko Sasaki, in what seems to be the limbo between dream and reality, to inform her about the creation of the barrier of the Culling Games over her place. Sasaki, confused and curious, questions whether the barrier could have been made elsewhere, and finding humor in her nonchalant response, Kenjaku mentions the location of an ancient execution ground nearby, which makes this area a pivotal point in the established barrier. Kenjaku reveals he is offering a one-time chance to all the non-sorcerers to leave the barrier, and as Sasaki agrees to leave, he gently guides her to move outside of the barrier. Before leaving, Kenjaku makes a strange remark, as he thanks Sasaki for being nice to his son. Sasaki is drawn back to reality and, like Iguchi and the majority of the local residents, gets surprised to find herself on the streets. A giant, several kilometers wide, blackened barrier has been erected in front of them, and to non-sorcerers the situation is extremely perplexing. Sasaki briefly reflects on Kenjaku’s words and wonders why he was calling Yuji his son. Viewers already know that Kenjaku hijacked Yuji’s mother, Kaori’s body, when she conceived him, which is why he considers him his ‘son.’ Pretty sickening plan considering Yuji’s life was being controlled by someone else even before his birth.

Plans to Tweak the Culling Game Rules

Speaking of Yuji, the narrative shifts to the rooftop of Hakari’s gambling den, as Yuji, Megumi, and Panda bring Hakari and Kirara up to speed with everything that has been happening lately. The news of Gojo’s entrapment in the Prison Realm is a shocker for Hakari, while Yuji sympathizes with Panda upon learning Principal Yaga has met a tragic end. Hakari agrees to help them to settle the Culling Games on one condition: now that the curse and jujutsu knowledge are no longer a secret from common people, a revision in Jujutsu rules is just a matter of time, and Hakari wants to modify the rules to his liking. As Megumi reveals he is the Zenin clan head at the moment, Hakari hilariously changes his tough-as-nuts attitude and tries to befriend him; having the chief of a prominent clan on his side is surely going to benefit his gambling operations. Funnily enough, a disclaimer mentions that the very next day, the Zenin clan is massacred at Maki’s hands, meaning Megumi’ position as clan chief no longer holds any value anyway.

Right at the moment the Culling Game is administering Shikigami, Kogane arrives to inform them of the addition of the aforementioned new rule, and one of its aspects becomes attached to Yuji by declaring him to already be a participant of the game. Megumi wonders how Yuji is already a part of the game, given he didn’t receive a cursed technique or item from Kenjaku, when Yuji remembers Kenjaku had arranged the means to have him consume Sukuna’s fingers. Kenjaku’s long-term planning has many facets, the extent of which Yuji and his friends haven’t realized yet.

Following Megumi’s suggestion, Yuji asks Kogane to fetch up the list of the players, and seeing Kashimo already topping the leaderboard with 200 points, Megumi plans to use the rule addition perk to their advantage. According to the rules, in exchange for hundreds of points, a player can add a new rule, and for the young heroes, gathering so many points without killing other sorcerers is an impossible task. Megumi wants to defeat sorcerers who have already stacked more than 100 points and force them to add new rules. Aside from Kashimo, Hiromi Higuruma too has gathered over a hundred points, and the team will seek them out to challenge them in battle. The first modification will be aimed at bypassing the eighth rule of the Culling Games, which deems sorcerers will be killed if, after nineteen days of the game, their points don’t change. Megumi wishes to add a rule of point sharing so that participants who don’t participate in direct battle can survive by gathering shared points. Megumi wonders whether adding another new rule to allow withdrawing from the Culling Games in exchange for points is possible, even though it directly opposes the game’s fundamentals. Hakari points out the flaw in logic when Megumi reveals he wishes to use a substitute to make participants withdraw, and it is clear that he wants to protect his half-sister Tsumiki by utilizing such a modification. The plan is set; Angel needs to be found to unlock the Prison Realm, and Kashimo and Higurama need to be tracked down.

Do Megumi and Yuji find Higuruma?

Hakari and Panda decide to move to the Tokyo 1 barrier in search of the sorcerers, while Yuji and Megumi venture to the Tokyo 2 barrier. Hakari plans to take on the strongest sorcerer, Kashimo, while Panda needs to look for Angel, and Kirara will stay outside of the barrier. Yuji wonders whether he and Megumi should split up, as he fears Sukuna’s return, but Megumi is unwilling to change tactics, and follows Hakari’s planning. Megumi shares his concerns that making a deal with centuries-old reincarnated sorcerers like Higuruma and Kashimo might not be possible, as their perspectives vary a lot compared to modern-day sorcerers. The ancient ones care more about their pride than they do about their lives, so making a deal by subduing them might not be possible.

Megumi and Yuji step inside the Tokyo 2 barrier, and at once Yuji finds himself freefalling, as the game randomly transfers players to one of nine preset battle arenas. Yuji is welcomed by the newly emerged novice sorcerer couple, Haba and Hanyu, who launch a surprise attack. Hanyu, with her hair-jet cursed technique, blindsides Yuji, but he defeats her almost instantly by hitting her with a cursed energy-imbued rock. Hababa, with his helicopter rotor hair cursed technique, presses Yuji, only to get knocked out following a punch to his head and a kick to his groin. Yuji tries to ask an unconscious Haba about Higurama when Rim Amai, a young sorcerer from his hometown, offers his help.

On the other hand, Megumi faces a dramatic, manipulative sorcerer named Remi and immediately knocks her down. As Megumi asks her about Higuruma, she agrees to help him in exchange for him acting as her knight, an odd demand that Megumi agrees to. He warns Remi that if she tricks him, he won’t think twice before taking her down for good. Unlike Yuji, Megumi isn’t averse to taking a life if such a need arises. On the other hand, Remi, a normal human turned sorcerer who has spent twelve days in the Culling Games already, knows stakes are high and she has to do whatever she can to survive. She doesn’t reveal Higuruma’s location right away, in fear that Megumi might kill her anyways. As the episode reaches its end, Remi reveals Higuruma is in Shinjuku, while in a parallel panel, Rin Amai reveals to Yuji that Higuruma is in Ikebukuro. Which one of them is lying, and in which zone of Tokyo Higurama is present, will be revealed in the upcoming episode, as the heroes participate in the high-stakes battle of the Culling Games.
