Apple’s new Home products could include two unexpected additions: report

Rumors indicate Apple has big plans for a new smart home push, with several new Home products and accessories launching in the year ahead. And per a new report, there are two additional Home products in the works.

New third-gen HomePod and an indoor sensor accessory are reportedly in development

Today Mark Gurman reported on three upcoming AI wearables Apple has in the works. But buried at the bottom of the report, there’s mention of an expanded lineup of new Home products coming.

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:

We have heard plenty before about the smart display product, which could be called HomePad or HomePod Touch. And the higher-end version with robotic arm has similarly been well covered.

These join the expected updates coming soon for Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2, and rumored security camera and doorbell products.

However, Gurman’s final sentence mentions two products that haven’t been widely rumored before:

It’s possible the former is simply a reference to the new HomePod mini. However, in prior reporting Gurman has always made it clear when he’s speaking about Apple’s smaller HomePod product. As a result, he seems to be saying that a new third-generation HomePod is in the works.

The indoor sensor makes sense as another addition to the Home products lineup, particularly since the company plans to expand into accessories like doorbells and home cameras.

Before long, it sounds like there could be first-party smart home accessories in a variety of new categories.
